I have a views page set up and I want to set the [Title] to be the alt tag for the HTML. I have tried 'Rewrite the out put of this field' and so far that just tags onto the original HTML.
When you add the field you will see that there is the image and then an option for data. There are a few ways to do this but with a rewrite add the image filed and the data field and put them into an image tag.
Hope this helps.

You need,
autonodetitle filefield imagefield token
I'm pretty sure that the alt atribute field will show up as a token you can use when configuring the node title with autonodetitle.
