I am new to Drupal and have many questions. I would like to post them to the forum on drupal.org, but I'm having trouble creating an account there.
When I submit my new account request, I get the following message in my browser (Firefox 1.5):
Warning: Duplicate entry '' for key 3 query: user_save INSERT INTO users (name, mail, pass, init, status, created, uid) VALUES ('xxxxx', 'xxx@example.com', 'f33d046a04aca850ff5fb526fa81a1ba', 'xxx@example.com', 1, 1159219089, 82644) in /var/www/drupal.org/htdocs/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 120

(I redacted my username and email above.)
Something seems to have gone right, because I get an email saying "Your application for an account is currently pending approval. Once it has been granted, you may log in to http://drupal.org/user using the following username and password..." I take this to mean that I've got a temporary password, but I can't use it until I am approved. I find this confusing, because why bother issuing me a password if I can't use it? Why not just send it with the approval message?
Also, how long does it take to get approved? I could not find this information anywhere on drupal.org.
Also, how purposes of the drupal.org forum and the mailing list differ?

Now that the world has seen your password hash, when you do successfully create an account please use a different password :)
Ooh and make sure its not the password you use for other services, otherwise you might get a nasty suprise.

Oops! I didn't realize that that field was the password hash.
The hash must correspond to the automatically-generated password, because users cannot set their own password until they successful log in. So no security risk, but thanks for the tip.
