Hello everyone,
I'm experience a hard-to-find bug. I don't know exactly where it is, but only a few triggers of the problem.
When I approve comments (from the approval queue), whether it be one or ten, it hangs for several minutes and sometimes results in a complete MySql crash, where I have no other option other than to reset the MySql server.
Also, when I delete comments as well I get this long hang and occasional crashes. It's obviously something with how Drupal is interacting with the MySql DB when calling comments.
When the crashes occur the error is a basic "Too many connections..." MySql error.
Anyone ever experienced this before? Let me know if anyone needs some clarification of my explanation.
Cheers,
David

Which modules do you have installed ?
Have you the possibility to use phpMyAdmin (web) or mytop (shell) to see which queries are running ?

Thanks for the responses.
I have too many modules to list them all... it would take too long.
It's something to do with MySql accessing the comments table. It then locks and hangs.
I am not using persistent connections.
The Processlist indicates a number of 'SELECT count(node.nid) FROM node LEFT JOIN comments' statements which send data forever, and a few 'SELECT node.nid, comments.timestamp' which copy to tmp forever.
Possible relevant modules: Karma Path Localizer Panels

The only suggestion I have is for you to start turning off modules until you find the one causing the problem and then open an issue for that module. It may be a combination of modules causing an issue; some modules are not compatible with other modules. If you find a combination issue then open an issue in both modules so that they can document the travesty.

It appears to be a problem with the Karma module we are using. The call in questions arise when we call a query for the Top Rated Comments, which we display to the user in a sidebar.
Oddly enough, this only happens on the weekends and then doesn't give us any problems during the week.
Has anyone ever heard of the Karma module causing a problem?

Check the issues. This one http://drupal.org/node/100266 looks interesting.

Yes but in my instance I had installed another piece of software that left its connections persistent.
