Hi all. I have a D6 site that make 200.000+ page views/month. I need to move it to a new ISP. This site use imagecache for resinzing news image. I think that use 64MB php memory.
Can someone give me some name of good ISP for this type of site ?
Tnx.
Considering your domain - I'd just like to ask what is the target country?

Your question is very abstract, we need more data like
-- target countries of the portal -- type of content being served -- do you plan to use a cdn ? -- average page load time of current server.

Italy for the moment.

News portal site.

I think no.
-- average page load time of current server.
I have not this data, because the actual server have some problems, so all page load time are distort.

My experience is when your app is focused on one country, hosting server in that country gives lot of speed benefits. I for instance, host all my India specific apps in India and ensure that the server has latency in the range of 85ms to 120 ms, anywhere in India. This becomes crucial when serving non text data such as images. So my suggestion will be to look for a datacenter in Italy, and test the latency before buying the services and have the datacenter sign an SLA with maximum latency for Italian visitors, for this you can search for Italy specific ISP/broadband forums.
regards Vivek

I'd also recommend focusing on "managed VPS" hosts. They'll cost a bit more than an unmanaged host or a shared host, but it's a good balance between having your own "server" (and therefore being able to customize it) and not having to maintain your own server (the web host is responsible for security updates to Apache and PHP and such). I don't know any in Italy off hand, but I'm sure there are some with data centers in your area.

I've a VPS with drupal installed on seeweb.it but it's not very heavily tested to recommend it. I just can say it works.
They have been several times in the netcraft top10 for uptime.
The customer care has been prompt, helpful and kind.
What I really started to hate about their VPS (managed) is plesk.
Right now they don't offer any more "plain" VPS but VPS on cloud... They have a webfarm in Milan that may come handy for Michel. Give a shout on #linux-it. Last time I checked there was at list one of their famous employee.
I'd suggest you check in the local Linux community. There are some people that offer that kind of service or at least you'd find some good advice.
As others said if your user base is local, go for a local service. Reliability and latency of connection may be more important than box speed.
[1] maybe still right now, but I haven't seen him on #linux-mi for a long time, so maybe he moved...
Hi, I have found this offer: http://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/produkte_rootserver/eq4/
Ok, it is not in Italy, but here in Italy no one make a offer like this. It is in Germany.

I have used hetzner and only problem I faced that the security is an issue. I moved out of hetzner due to repeated attacks which used to saturate the bandwidth. Other have faced issues such as machines being compromised. If your budget allows, try webfaction.com managed server, I am using the services for past 4 years.
