Dear Drupal Support Community,
I am trying to figure out a problem that is vexing me. Last night I got a call from the ED of a nonprofit we work with that all the pictures on their site were disappearing. No changes have been made to the configuration, modules, the theme or to the servers file structure but nothing in the files directory is displaying anywhere. There is an image that comes from the theme directory and that is working just fine but any image that comes from the sites/default or sites/default/files etc. are not working.
I have cleared the cache, checked imagecahce, checked field permissions, checked read access to the folders in question. Also if you go to the directory itself you can download the image and it is just fine.
The site is limmudcolorado.org if that will help anyone but this is vexing me.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi!
Judging by the WHOIS record, you host this site at Bluehost or Hostmonster.
I host several sites at Hostmonster and have experienced the same problem.
Edit the .htaccess file in the "files/" directory of every site, remove or comment out the "Options +FollowSymLinks" line and add "Options +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch". This worked for me.
I think they have changed something in the Apache configuration.
However I am no an expert in Apache and don't know how this can effect the site security.

Just so this does not stay unanswered the issue was an Appache security patch applied by my shared hosting company.
Thanks,
Steve
