pair.com supports Drupal in the sense they let you run it, but you'll have to do all the setup yourself. Their uptime and general support is very good, however. Three questions... quite basic.

I hope someone can help me with the following questions, though they seem very basic. 1. I am having a heck of a time figuring out how to get a menu item to open in a new window. If I could find the link, I would insert a "target=_blank" but for whatever reason I cant. 2. I am also having a heck of a time getting a wiki page to show up. I downloaded the module. It shows up in my modules admin page. I have enabled it. I have created a menu item for it that links to "wiki" and I get a "Page not Found" error consistently. There is something basic that I am not understanding. 3. I don't imagine there is something for Drupal akin to FacileForms - a form generator for Mambo/Joomla? I would like to develop a registration form that links to CiviCRM, but right now I am considering authoring some sort of trigger which will move records from my Mambo db to the Drupal db. This could be avoided if I could simply do a form in Drupal. I will limit this email to those points. Thank you very much for your time.

I would strongly encourage you to have a look at customizing the drupal themes. There's not much that you can't change in terms of how drupal looks. If you have file level access you can customize a great deal of the html that drupal outputs, particularly if using drupal 4.7. It is quite simple if you take a gander at the drupal theming handbook, and then modify the template files found in the themes directory. You could certainly comment out a great deal of the html produced if that is really your desire. I don't advise it, however. I'm currenlty in the process of developing a module that's actually handling form posts, and reading/writing data to a separate database, and only using drupal to provide the HTML producing API, just so that I don't have to write a CSM in my own app. If you're really trying to get drupal to NOT handle the html, you should consider abandoning the product as you've already indicated. IMHO it would be better than trying to kludge together the product. Drupal is after-all first and formost a CMS. So if you're don't want to use drupal to provide look and feel, I think you'd be better off not using it all. Hope you don't mind me being direct here. I've been hired to take over for a contract that is 3 months overdue. The programmer chose drupal and has a substantial but not-functional site designed. The owner wants to use the design, but doesn't like drupal's layout which is more suited for blogs than a commercial venue. I offered to copy the drupal layout into HTML pages and solve the infamous drupal screen resizing problems. This also allows us to walk-around drupal on its other limitations such as custom templates not fitting standard modules. The problems getting drupal to output back IN to the HTML. I've no problem submitting the data correctly, but drupal always "wants" to output a full html page when all I want it to do is give me back the SQL data and some content. When I use a FORM action I can direct drupal to another page, but this only works haphazardly, and I'd like a more seemless interaction with drupal NOT handling the HTML! I really need some suggestions on this. The drupal programmer went on VACATION with the contract still unfilled and now four months overdue. We are paying 250.00 a day in site expenses until I can solve this problem, allowing us to terminate the contract and apply for remunerations. If it were not for the active and supportive drupal community, this programmer would have burned me forever - causing me to hate drupal. We bought the drupal book and I've been using it, and I'm slowly starting to like it, despite its limitations. I've only been learning drupal for 45 days and have this dysfunctional site dropped in my lap so I've really got my hands full: deciding which directions to lead, reviewing whether to abandon the entire product, to continue using drupal, and so on. This is quite a headache. Has anyone else had this happen to them? What did you do? My reaction after nearly 2 months at this, trying to squeeze more work out of a contractor, is to ditch drupal and use straight html with a shopping cart from our host company. I don't hate it, but it stands between us and commercial success. This is controllable in the Admin->settings page, but its typically the "files" subfolder. Different modules create subdirectories in their (e.g. imaages, pictures). How to create new blogs?

Hello, I'm working on setting up a site in drupal. I had originally used typo for the site, and Movabletype for the blogs. It's a website with three blogs. I know each user has their own blog, but is there a way to create new blogs within a drupal site? Then, when a user creates a new blog entry, they can choose which blog that entry goes into? - jody

As a last resort, you could create your own blocks with static versions of the links that might appear in a menu with target=_blank, but I don't think you'll ultimately be happy with that as a solution. ---snip 2. There is something basic that I am not understanding. --snip I don't see in your notes that you "configured" the module in /admin/settings/liquid_wiki (or whatever the correct version of the module was). I haven't used this module, but this is part of my normal routing for enabling and installing new modules. Since this module uses input filters, you may need to enable and configure an input filter in the administer->input formats menu. You may need to configure the named filter to include one or more liquid wiki filters. You shouldn't need to create your own menu item in order to get drupal to repoond to yoursite/wikis. --snip 3. Front page suddenly reversed

I'm not aware of having changed anything that might have done this, but the front page of my site has become reversed with the oldest nodes first and the newest last. Has anyone else seen this? What can I do to return my site to its normal self? Tim

For the 4.7 upgrade, i'd encourage you to view the videocast at: http://drupal.org/videocasts/upgrading-to-4.7 It answers many of your questions. The basic answer for flexinode, is that if you install the flexinode module on your 4.7 installation and then run update.php your content should be intact. Regarding question 4, that's a really tricky thing to do. I wouldn't advise advertising this to clients, and this is NOT archival quality, but if you were REALLY careful you could create a database backup, save it into the site files directory and then tar or zip the whole thing up for transport to another drupal site. The following things would have to be true in order for the import to work: 1. The version of drupal being imported to MUST be the same version. 2. The destination version of drupal MUST be on the same database technology. 3. All of the modules that your using must be downloaded on the drupal version. Otherwise you should consider satic copies of the site using a tool like wget to build an archive copy of the static version of the drupal site. Hope that helps. Ok, I have some sites that use 4.6.x. I'm wanted to figure out what steps would need to be made to keep the content of a site and upgrade the install. Here are some obvious concerns. 1) The modules are specific to a particular version, so whatever content used a module with 4.6.x will cause problems. For example, I use a flexinode content type. How can I keep content that uses the flexinodes for 4.6.x when I upgrade to 4.7.x? 2) and other content that uses a module for 4.6.x what will happen to it when I upgrade to 4.7.x? say I had a movie review module. what would happen when I upgrade and no longer have that module available? 3) what do I need to backup and how should it best be done to make these upgrades? 4) If I wanted to give a client all the content and the install of a site, on a CD, what steps would I take? what would I need to backup and how? The goal would be to give the client on CD everything they would need to keep the content and if needed install it elsewhere? 4a) What steps would be taken to one, backup everything and two setup the site again from the backup contents? 5) I want to do this with a writer's community site and poetry magazine online. Where might I seek persons to share admin tasks for this community, from among persons that know Drupal? Maybe a newsgroup, for writers, or one for CMS users, might exist where one could request others to join with me on such a website/CMS installation.
