Cron and clearing caches to update field data..

Hi, Can someone explain what running the drupal cron job does and at what intervals?? Here is the situation.. We are updating a particular field directly in the database from another source.. This is working fine but the issue is that the updated information doesn't show on the site straight away.. I have cron running every hour and have the cache lifetimes on the performance page set to 10 min but even after waiting an hour and a cron run the page still isn't always updated with the new value of the field.. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't.. The only way I have found to "force" an update is to clear all the caches but this seems like a massive overkill.. If I can find out when it will update on its own I can set the user expectations so they know they have to wait that long for the data to be updated.. Thanks for any information..

add multiple articles at once in D7?

I have a site I'm putting up where the client has about 500 articles that need posting. They are all short ascii text files with a simple pattern. It would save an awful lot of work if I could add them faster than cut and paste one at a time. I've been looking at the feeds module but can't tell if it would do this. Anyone have ideas or experience with a situation like this? Panels as taken over

Hi, Drupal 7.15 with Ctools, panels, pages, views installed and enabled. My site is dev.apacecouriers.com I am learning panels and was working on site template and now I have a page displaying my panels page but the problem is I can not access any other content. I can log in and out but no matter what I try to open - content, panels, structure ...any thing in the menu..It displays the 'homepage' (the site template) I have uploaded the default 'panels-pane.tpl.php' file and when that didn't work I stopped messing about and came here for guidance. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Help? Howard

Drupal 7 autocomplete textfield cursor focus

Hi All I am using an autocomplete textfield in D7 form, When user types letters, I do the query in database and able to show it to user. When user selects the shown text, text is set to autocomplete textfield. So far so good. Next, the cursor is hiding or sometimes it goes to start of autocomplete textfield, I need to click the mouse at the end of text of textfield to type some more key words. Whats the trick to to get the cursor at the end of text present in autocomplete textfield . Thanks Kamal NECS Bangalore

Domain Access alternatives..

Hi, I have a single web application that we have built on Drupal that makes extensive use of the content_access module for managing access to the various bits of information stored on the site for different roles and individual users.. The company has two "identities" that have different branding and currently run two sites.. The objective is to have a single "site" for both domains.. On a simple site the Domain Access module is perfect for this but its design and the design of Drupal's node access system means it doesn't play well with content_access.. So I am looking for an alternative setup.. So far I have found ThemeKey that looks like it will switch the theme nicely for the domain being accessed.. Things I am having a hard time working out.. 1) For each "domain" I need a different "home" page.. Any suggestions how to have <front> show a different page depending on the domain? 2) The meta tags need to be different depending on the domain being accessed.. 3) Separate "contact us" form for each domain.. I have just started looking at the "context" module and the "context_condition_theme" module but these don't seem to be solving the problems for me.. I was going to use context to manage block placement for each "site" but it doesn't seem like its able to do this for this type of arrangement where more than one theme is being used.. The core blocks module for all its short comings seems to be able to do this more easily.. My other alternative would be to keep the separate site for "marketing" and somehow redirect the login block (or just create a login link) that redirects into the primary site and then just tweak the branding to make the user feel comfortable even though slogans, meta tags, titles and urls won't be right for that "domain".. Alter node (title) field?

Hello All, This must be a simple thing to do but i can't seem to get my head around it: - I have got a content type 'publication' - A publication can have two possible physical formats: "normal", "electronic" - When a publication has physical format "electronic" i'd like to alter my title field in al my view modes (i use display suite) like this "Some Title (electronic)" I've been trying theme_preprocess_node function but to no avail. I've also tried hook_node_view, but there i have my title field already as markup in an array so i can't just alter the title itsself. I'm very much stuck on a simple thing here i guess. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks beforehand! Best, Toon

change the Site name by an image

I am coming in late on this discussion. In Bartik and Garland I find it difficult to change header things even if trying to change page.tpl.php so went to Mayo and set that up, it has a lot of advantages not available in Bartik or Garland. The way I change the Site Name area is to leave those empty by going to Configuration -> Site Information. Then, I create my header image as a png or jpg, go to Admin -> Blocks ->Create New Block, Use CKeditor to download my header image to that block. No text, just the image. Then set the block to appear in the header of your chosen theme and save. In Firebug find that image, it will be very deep in the page structure and will have a name like block-block-name-number, It's not easy to find but firebug highlights blocks as you select them. Copy and paste that block name into a text file. Then in the yourtheme/css file create a css file called positions.css and copy that id or class to the css code to position that image #block-block-23 /*or what ever*/ { position: relative; top:nn px; float:left; left:nn px; border 1px solid red; /*so you can find it on the page, comment this out when your positioning is correct*/ } In themename.info point it to the new css file stylesheets[all][] = css/positions.css you will see where to put this. I put this positions.css first in the list, seems to work ok that way in Mayo. Hope this helps Roger
