Panels in Drupal 7 not displaying content, blocks, I think I have solved the dilemma and found some interesting theme info. Content created in blocks must be formatted in [Full HTML] If in filtered or plain text, content will not display in any panel. Do not know why, yet! Maybe someone can explain this! Will work next with content in views content panes next. Blocks are not 'enabled' in [Structure] [Blocks] of the theme - content, header, footer or any active region, but should remain disabled. Panels will see them. Do not disable Drupal blocks in Panels. I am using a basic zen starterkit theme with 2 Regions: regions[page_top] = Page top regions[page_bottom] = Page bottom screenshot = screenshot.png name = NEWS (Zen Sub-theme Starter Kit) description = Basic zen starter kit with no extras. core = 7.x base theme = zen stylesheets[all][] = css/styles.css features[] = main_menu features[] = secondary_menu Panels seems to do the theme hard lifting. If you create a [Structure] [Panels] [Panel page] or [Landing page] and give it a url, that url will override the name of the directory. So you can effectively have a number of landing pages and grant different user access to each individually. Example: I have a drupal install named /sandbox. My panels landing page is /news. localhost/news brings up the general landing page. Previously I had localhost/sandbox/news. localhost/nsw brings up the nsw landing page. Have not experimented with panels CSS yet. With panels there seems no point in creating separate site pages, panels does this. Johan Falk of NodeOne described using panels to display articles and other data on any page created in panels. Hope this helps those who cannot get panels to display content. Roger

AJAX

Hi Folks, I have a tiny AJAX example and it works -- in fact it works too well. On the first click, it does what it is supposed to do -- insert a DOM node with text after the <A> node with id=ajax-enabled.. On the second click is does it TWICE and I can see two throbbers run. On the third click, you guessed it, FOUR throbbers. Is there some context that I need to clear after the AJAX call or some object I need to re-use to prevent this? Also, as I investigate the DOM with the browser inspector, I can't find where all the event handlers are attached. When I look in the naive places, I see references to jQuery, but I believe that jQuery is dispatching to something somewhere and I'd like to know where that somewhere is. I should be able to find it. AJAX

Hi Folks, This is a biggie... I have a view which produces a page of links to content. When the user clicks the link, I want to display an unadorned, overlaying, modal <DIV> of the target. Imagine, for example, that the view produces a list of drawings, then I want to display the selected drawing without any real estate consumed by Drupal navigation or block regions. I know this is a job for AJAX, and I need someone to just fill in a gap or two. Here's what I think I know: In response to the user's click on the link, through the magic of 'class="use-ajax" ', Drupal will make an AJAX call for the requested content, wait on the promise, and finally return JSON encoded content to some function that I provide so that I can display the returned content in a <DIV> constructed specially for the circumstance. I see the example, but I can't quite follow it. More specifically, how does 'class="use-ajax" ' do this magic? I have to assume there is an onClick event handler hiding somewhere above me in the DOM looking for the class "use-ajax". Where is this event listener attached? How does it become attached? Where is the source, so I can see both the event handler and the attachment? Finally, how do I register my callback function which will operate on the returned JSON, which is a complicated question because I need an example of what I need to write, where I need to put it, and how I tell Drupal that it is there. install.php isn't opening when upgraded to ubuntu13.10 and apache2.4

Hello all. I'm hoping that someone can help or direct me of which way I should go here, but I have just, a few days ago, upgraded my server to ubuntu13.10 and in turn of that, upgraded all of it's packages and that will be including, apache2.4 and php and mysql. the problem that I'm having right now is that I can't get my drupal instance to open, meaning that it's not showing anything… if you go to http://kjscradio.com/blog, it doesn't show anything. so, then, I have tried completely removing drupal from my server and reinstalling it and still no dice. does anyone know what could be the cause of this? could some .php extensions gotten changed on me and I have to reapply the requirements? thanks.

Content with multiple fields

Hi Folks, I have a content-type, "Coming Events", which has zero or more "Happening" dates that represent the schedule for some event. I have a view which produces a block showing the brief content, one appearance per event regardless of the event schedule. So far so good. The "natural" sort order is apparently content creation order, but I want to sort the view to list each event once by the soonest "Happening" date per event. This causes an entry in the view for EACH date in EACH event. I've tried aggregation and gotten aggravation. (-: There is no combination of view options that lets me filter the events to one occurrence per event and sort by "Happening" date. I thought I might avoid the problem with a single occurrence date field that simply copied the first "Happening" date, but I found no way to mirror a field. It is really a double selection: select the unique events then select the earliest "Happening" date, for each event. I'm not exactly sure how I'd write that in SQL, but I am reasonably sure that it can be done. Does anybody have any insight into how this particular problem is solved? Chris.

Problems with Views_slideshow

Drupal 7.23 and latest Views slide show produce error: * /Deprecated function/: preg_replace(): The /e modifier is deprecated, use preg_replace_callback instead in /_views_slideshow_preprocess_views_slideshow()/ (line /73/ of //var/www/html/sandbox/sites/all/modules/views_slideshow/theme/views_slideshow.theme.inc/). * /Deprecated function/: preg_replace(): The /e modifier is deprecated, use preg_replace_callback instead in /_views_slideshow_preprocess_views_slideshow()/ (line /76/ of //var/www/html/sandbox/sites/all/modules/views_slideshow/theme/views_slideshow.theme.inc/). and repeat the error about 70 times. Seems silly to repeat the same (line /76)/ lines so many times, this too must be a bug. I see in 2012 there was a patch which does not work in these versions. I deleted the latest views_slideshow and installed an older version that works with drupal 7.21 in our live site. It too fails with 7.23 so it seems to be a drupal core error. I'm glad I haven't updated core in the live site. Has anyone found a fix for the views_slideshow error please. Thanks in advance Roger

Guidance on architecting nested and contextual OG menus

Hi there Drupal-pals, [Sorry resending because I am not sure the first email went correctly] Two part question. First aside from the OG_menu and OG menu default links, is there any other (smart) way to create automatic menu options based on the currently active menu? When I look at groups.drupal.org (http://groups.drupal.org) I see paths like: https://groups.drupal.org/node/add/event?gids[]=3002 Where you have a path to add a node, its type and then a variable which references the current group. Should I just make these as default links? If so, do I add the current GID into the default menu link list as text? I need a similar format like on groups.drupal.org (http://groups.drupal.org) where each new group gets very standard, repeated, menu links: a group Forum, group Blog posts, and group related content (of specific types). In a nut shell my question is: How do I set up a group-contextual menu like on groups.drupal.org (http://groups.drupal.org)? =--=-= Second question, once I have figured out the first, I will need to inject the sub-menu of the group between a listing of all groups. So if the groups are listed as such: <ul> <li><a href="linkpath 1">group name1</a></il> <li><a href="linkpath 2">group name2</a></il> <ul> I will need the sub-menus to be nested inside of the menu output like such: <ul> <li><a href="linkpath 1" class="active active-trail">group name1</a> <ul> <li><a href="node/add/event?gids[]=3002">Add event</a></li> //more links go here </ul> </il> <li><a href="linkpath 2">group name2</a></il> <ul> Is my best approach to just use template.php and catch the menu tree rendering and to then inject the group-menu inside of the main menu (main menu = the menu where all the groups are put inside of)? Adding custom PHP to the template.php file is the way I am thinking I would approach this problem, but maybe there is an easier way? Thanks!! -- Sebastian

Wildcard country code in multilingual site

Hello, I'm trying to setup my site to work with another system that will link back to the site with a special url depending on the language of the user. I will be getting links in this format: www.mydomain.com/country-code-in-2-char/popup some of these pages will have a translated versions in the drupal site: www.mydomain.com/fr/popup will lead to the french page, but some won't. this works fine if the country code is enabled, but if it isn't it leads to a 404. any way to create some kind of rule to check if the country code is active/enabled if not trim it out or redirect to the default language? I can enable all the languages the come with drupal but I don't think that's the best solution... this is drupal 7 btw. Thanks Idan

Producing valid HTML: tags closed after the teaser ends...

Dear all, One recurrent difficulty we have is with articles where th teaser does not close all the tags it opened. In other words tags open atthe beginning in the article, hence present in the teaser, get then closed after the tease ends. So the article si valid but the teaser is invalid. Like this: <p>This is the beginning of the article.<!-break--> An the article continues.</p> The article is valid but i the teaser the <p> elEment is not closed. I'm pretty sure this is a very common problem and wel known. Any hint would be warmly appreciated giventhat we use Drupal 6.18. Thanks! Sherab.
