extracting author's UID from URL for use in a block

I have given my blog entries URL's in PathAuto like this: /blog/5/200806/389 where: 5 is UID of author 200806 is June, 2008 389 is nid I want to create a block on the right margin which will have links such as member's blog, member's recent entries, member's most read blogs, etc which will all link to Views I've already set up. I thought I could use args to extract the UID from the URL but when I print out all arguments in the block as a test, I get only "node" and "389" so it's not seeing the PathAuto URL but the system URL. What I was hoping to do, paraphrased, is where arg0 is blog and arg1 is numeric arg1 equals $uid <a href="/blog/$uid">Member's Blog</a> also though, in that snippet, how would I load the user's name? I guess what I'd really want to do is load the user so I'm able to extract uid, name, picture, etc and use arg1 to do it, but I can't get the PathAuto created URL parameters, only the core system ones. any help appreciated. updating mysql with Drupal 6

Hi, just a quick question. I've been running Drupal 6 on Centos 5 with mysql 5.0.22 for awhile now, and I'd like to update to the latest version 5.0.45. Is it safe to update the mysql package with an active Drupal database, or do I need to dump it, start fresh, and reload the database. Just curious if anyone has tried this and what the consequences might be. I'm thinking I can just bump the version since it's just a minor revision. Any opinions would be appreciated. Succesfully updated from Centos 5.1 -> 5.2. I left mysql 5.0.45 until last, but it didn't give me any issues. Session problems

Hello, A lot of users are complaining that inexplicably they end up getting logged into another user's account. These are users at a school. At first I assumed that they there sharing computers and the previous user had not logged out properly. But at least some users have assured me that this is not the problem. Can anyone think of a reason why some users may be logged in as a different user? My users are very angry and I don't know what to do. Drupal 4.7 Thank you for your help. Daniel.

Hi folks! Not sure if this fits support or development...sorry for cross-posting. What is the logical solution to providing interface for internal messaging among users for Drupal 6.x? I need just basic inbox & outbox view, and compose, reply & forward forms. Is there a specific Module? something being ported from 5.x or made new for 6.x? Regards - Zeljko

Writing authentication module

I'm writing a module in drupal to support remote authentication. Basically, our drupal site will have its login/logout controlled by a parent site for the company. This is working for new users. ie: users of the main site who have not yet been to the drupal site. Their user account is automatically created with data retrieved from the main site. However, when the user logs in again (second time - so they now have a "uid" in the "users" table) when they come back from the remote login page, the user hook is called with op = "load" , uid = 0, and the account is set up for an anonymous user. This I don't understand. The code goes basically like this: -- if ( ! mymodule_user_exists( $username ) ) { user_external_login_register( $username, "mymodulename" ) } $account = user_external_load( $username ); -- Any hints appreciated. -Matt
