Dependent parent->child taxonomy terms in CCK select fields

Hi all. I'm on Drupal 5.3, and I've got a CCK node-type that I'd like to add two select fields, one dependent on the other (e.g. manufacturers & models). Depending on which manufacturer is selected, the models field select options are updated to reflect the new choices. When the form is submitted, I'd like for the term_node table to store both manufacturer and model information. My current vocabulary is set up like this: Manufacturer1 -Model1-1 -Model1-2 Manufacturer2 -Model2-1 -Model2-2 etc If I create a vocabulary with manufacturers as parent terms and models as child terms and associate it with the CCK type, I get a single select field with every single term of that vocabulary. In addition, only the selected term is stored in db (if multiple selects is turned off), so this method isn't ideal. I seem to get the same result with the cck_taxonomy module. Before I start hacking away at a custom model - can anyone suggest a module or set of modules that can already do this? If not, can someone provide some pointers as to how to get the second select field (models) to update based on the first select field (manufacturers)? I know PHP/MySQL and I am learning Drupal. I like it very much, but there are some things which I have not found a way to do so I just code them myself in PHP. Here are two examples to start: 1. A Contact Us page which returns the data submitted to the user. I mean that the page displays the email and message submitted. 2. A nested navigation UL based on a taxonomy vocabulary. What I mean is that I have an estore and the categories of products are stored as terms in a certain vocabulary. I want to display links to each category page as nested UL lists, so that Shoes is one link and inside of it is another UL with Men's Shoes and Womens' Shoes, each also a link to that category. These are both things which I recently coded in PHP for sites. Just wondering if there is a better way to handle such things. Thanks.

Multi-Sites Question - Site Variables

Yes, I know one instance of Drupal can have multiple sites. It is clearly documented ... no issue there. I know it's about creating the right directories under the sites folder and moving settings.php to that directory. Clearly, settings.php holds the 'site variables' to a site in a directory. Please correct me if any of that is wrong ... So, my question is .... we want to add a dozen new site variables for our sites. I think the obvious thing to do would be add those custom variables to the settings.php file. Is that the best way to go about it ... I didn't look yet, but are there custom modules out there that specifically deal with new site variables. I mean, I am sure there are other ways to go about this ... but what way fits best in the Drupal module? I think my first suggestion of putting them in the settings.php file is the most appropriate, but I could be wrong. Thanks for any information or help! Tom

Install Script just loops on the database page

Hello - I am a newbie that really needs some help. Everytime I run the install script from the install.php page, it just loops me back to the page without any errors. If I enter an incorrect username/password then it will give me an error, but the correct combo will not. I have created the database and a new user, granted all needed permissions and flushed the privledges. I have even given the install script the root user information. I just get the same result each time. Here is what I am running: - Windows XP - Apache 2.2 - Drupal 5.3 - PHP 5.2 I used the MSI installer for PHP. There are a few messages about this issue, but without a good solution. Please help.

Taxonomy auto tags help

Hello, I'm setting up a site and i'm having some trouble understanding if I can accomplish what I need with taxonomy, and if so how? I'd like to set up terms in a hierarchy with multiple levels. Now every time a node is edited or created, I'd like for the node to be linked to to each term according to the content. If the word book apears in the node body or node title and I have a term book. I'd like the node to be tagged with that term, and all others. Anyone know of a module or technique for doing this? Thanks Idan

Comment/Settings page error

Hello, I've had this on the Drupal forum for almost a week with no reply. I hope someone here has an idea! Using Drupal 5.3. Site is upgraded. Originally 4.6 (new), then to 4.7, then to 5.3 if that matters. Theme is BlueMarine. Disappearing Part of URL and Breadcrumb

I'm working on a site that has a three level menu system, with two levels of menus and then page nodes under the second menu. When the third level page is clicked, on the second part drops out of the URL and breadcrumb, leaving just the first and third. So, for example, I have a top level menu called Products. Under that menu I have a page for each Category heading that describes the category. Then, I have a page for each individual product. In the menu, the category page is under the Products menu, and then each individual product page is under the Category page. So, the structure looks like this Products |___Category |___Product 1 |___Product 2 |___Product 3 The problem is, when I navigate to Category, the URL and breadcrumb show as mysite.com/Products/Category (breadcrumb is Home->Products->Category), but when I click on the individual product page, the URL is mysite.com/Products/Product1, and the breadcrumb trail shows Home->Products->Product 1, instead of mysite.com/Products/Category/Product1 and Home->Products->Category->Product1, which is what I would expect. Can anyone explain why this happens and any possible way to fix it? Thanks. Steve

disallow password change?

Hi, I've been searching the forums and modules for this option but have not found anything yet. My client doesn't want extranet users to change their password. I assumed that this would be a default option available in the user profile but it doesn't seem to be (you can disallow users from changing their username but i assume that doesn't disallow them to change their password?) Does anyone know if there is a way to do this or will I have to hack the user module to get this to work? thanks .sander

can't clean $user->data in DB

Not that it really matter to make things work... but I injected some fields in the user edit form: $form['block']['field'] = Array( '#title' => t('Page'), '#type' => 'textfield', '#maxlength' => 10, '#size' => 11, '#default_value' => $edit['field'], ); I cleared them in the update/insert hook_user $edit['field']=NULL; but I still get b:0; in the data field of the DB. -- Ivan Sergio Borgonovo http://www.webthatworks.it
