managing subscriptions

Hello, I'm considering to set up a community site with organic groups, forums, newsletters, etc. What is the best way to set up a set of users to receive forum messages (& comments) by mail, so it acts like a traditional mailing list ? I read about a 'subscription' module that lets individual users subscribe to nodes. Is there a way to manage subscriptions from a central place, i.e. as a forum moderator / admin ? develop to test to production server question

Anyone know of a place that lists out which files and database tables need to be changed when migrating drupal from one server to another? If not could someone take the time to list them out for me? It would save a lot of headaches. We're setting up our test server now and when it's ready I will copy the database and drupal files to the new server so that content editors can begin entering the content without the risk of my code taking them down. I have enough of the site already configured that I would rather not set it up from scratch but obviously there will be things that need to change (hostname, possibly paths, db connect info etc). Once it's set up I'll move forward with the traditional develop, test, deploy approach so I don't need a complex setup to synchronize the db or anything, and I don't need directions on how to set up a database or apache or anything - a one time copy/configure these files, change those database entries should be sufficient.

drupal_get_path not found/working

Hello, I've been running Drupal for quite some time now, and I've always had a problem that I'm finally frustrated enough to try to fix. For some reason, my system does not recognize drupal_get_path. I run into errors any time I try to install a module. So, what I end up needing to do is go into the .module file and change anywhere there's drupal_get_path to be the full path to that file it's looking at. Any ideas how to fix this? Is this a drupal setting, or php? Thank you for any help you can provide. - jody

Image Nightmare

Image Nightmare: my image directory has thousands of image files. I just realized they have been multiplying themselves. Some files. but not all, goes like this. <filename>_1.jpg . . <filename>_197.jpg Yet the live image is still <filename>.jpg. This file was uploaded long time ago, and the related nodes has not been modified at all. The time stamp of between the increments are 4+ hours, but is not matching to the cron runtime. Drupal API?

Drupal API site doesn't have printer friendly version. I started to fetch into Acrobat this morning, and it is still running. It's about 340 pages now, and I am about to abort. Is there printed version of API somewhere? How others are doing? Every time I see code example, I get stuck because I don't understand the param which are passed. Do I understand everyone is familiar with the API, and the only way to understand the code is to know the API? I am a noob and I would like to learn step-by-step. I did buy Pro Drupal Dev book. audio module + itunes pocast images?

hi all, so i am loading my weekly podcast onto audio modules, and have a feed at feedburner that points to a view with all the audio nodes tagged as episodes. so far so good, shows up when i subscribe by hand on itunes. i have not submitted to the itunes directory yet though, because i am confused about how the audio module handles images. when i add an image under "itunes feed information" it seems to show up in the node both teaser and body. ok that's good. but will this also put it in the rss for the file that itunes will read, and will it be standards compliant so that the image will show up on the itunes directory? after i have added the image and it shows up in the node, it still does not show up in itunes when i have subscribed to the podcast url. how does the audio module handle itunes image tags, and what do i need to do here... -- will

Hi, On a site that's in development (where e.g. theme files are being moved around a lot, and in fact database contents are being copied from one development system to another with their system tables intact and hence incorrect on the new system), is there any reason *not* to call module_rebuild_cache and system_theme_data on every page (apart from performance)? I notice that the former uses UPDATEs on the system table in the database, whereas the latter uses DELETE/INSERTs to flush out all themes before re-INSERTing them. tweaking php to get random images from multiple galleries

Problems installing drupal

Hello, I'm trying to install drupal 5.2 in netsons host one free host with php and mysql. While I was configuring drupal with the db parameters, I received these following messages: The following error must be resolved before you can continue the installation process: We were unable to lock a test table on your MySQL database server. We tried locking a table with the command LOCK TABLES drupal_install_test WRITE and MySQL reported the following error: Access denied for user ' userid'@'%' to database 'dbname'. How can I solve this kind of problem? In the worst case that I can't solve it, can you give me some indications about Free hosts with php and mysql where I can try to Install drupal?
