Hi, recently upgraded to 4.6 Since then, the site became quite slow.
The cache table seems to be causing a lot of the slowness. I turned caching off in administer.settings, but the cache table is still being written to and being queried.
In other words, I can't manage to turn off the cache, and I believe the cache is causing serious performance issues.
I spend the last few hours looking for answers in the forums and such, but couldn't find anything.
Any pointers very welcome! Thanks, Peter

What leads you to believe this? The cache usually helps performance.
Unless you are being bit by this scenario, in which case the answer is well documented by Mr. Handelaar: http://drupal.org/node/43336

I turned off the cache by commenting out the code, and the site went from SLOOOW to snappy immediately. The performance increase by turning off the cache was very very clear.
I'm not even sure it's because of that myisam "problem" you referred too.. my comment and node tables are still very large, and being hit a lot, but it is MUCH faster with the cache turned off.
