Hi All
I want to embed a viewer of documents like scribd in my site. Does anybody know such tool or module available? I dont want to use iPaper module, because I want to upload files on my server.
I used pdf2swf tool. So, does anybody know such viewers
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,
I have a D5 site with a page of uploaded PDF files. The files are listed Drupal style on the page (http://lrcf.org/Spotlight). Up until recently when I double clicked a page the pdf would open in acroread as expected.
Recently double clicking a linked pdf results in one of three results:
1. Displays as expected (example - the January 2010 issue)
2. Firefox window opens offering to save the pdf file (it is not opened as expected) (example - December 2009 issue).
3. Firefox window opens stating Download Error: "/tmp/Spotlight-2009-11-3.pdf could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences." (example - November 2009 issue).
I am viewing all this on Firefox from an updated CentOS 5 Linux box.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? All of the files appear to be normal pdf files and open as expected when they are local files.
Thanks!
Hi Bob,
I single clicked each pdf link on that page - only the jun/oct/nov/dec/ 09 files gave me the problem #2 you reference below. Never got #3. Win XP, FF 3. Is it possible something 'special' was done when creating those 4 problem files in Acrobat?

AFAIK the problem files are not unique. All of the pdfs were created on a Windows box - not sure what program was used. As files on my file system (Linux) they all behave the same, opening without complaint in Acroread.
I don't really think this is a Drupal issue, but wanted to consider all possibilities.
Bob,
I'm too paranoid to click your links with the current PDF exploits that are in the wild (no offense), but it sounds like one of three things to me:
1. Your web server may not have the proper file type information for the PDF file type (in other words, the file mime.types in your web server configuration doesn't have the mapping "application/pdf pdf" in it). 2. The files don't all have a PDF extension on them. 3. Your brower somehow lost either the mapping of application/pdf to Acrobat or the mapping of the .pdf extension to Acrobat.

Thanks Chuck - no offense taken.
Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't numbers 1 and 3 result in an error for _any_ pdf file? As noted in another response, there are only a few files which give a problem.
As for your number 2 - all files do have the .pdf extension both in the listed name on the Drupal page and in the underlying file system (a Linux host on Westhost.com).
Are you using the private file system? I've seen problems with the header options with some browsers, they viewed the files as security problems.
I ended up having to write my own get function and include the extra header options.

I'm not sure I understand the question (which likely means I am not!). Private file system? The setup is pretty basic D5, using the file upload feature.
Hi Bob,
There are two different ways those files can be delivered to the browser. One way is the files are really where the link says it is, and the browser gets them from apache or IIS directly.
Some people like to hide certain files from public access. So they put their files somewhere else, and Drupal goes and gets the file when they're requested. The file is read, a header telling the browser it's a pdf file is slapped in front of it, and it's sent out. That's called a private file system.
It's that second method that can cause problems.
The setting is at admin/settings/file-system if you're using mod_rewrite.
It will work better if that's set to public.

Hi, I don't know what causes it, but I can tell you what's happening, thanks to that wondeful Firefox addon 'httpfox'. It's all in the content-type response header, as follows: January: application/pdf December: binary/octet-stream November: unknown/unknown
As a guess, I'd say that the "what kind of file" decision was made at the time it was uploaded to Drupal, and has "stuck" with the file ever since. The data is good in all cases, which is why you can open it locally, and the downloaded December is readable.
Cheers, Peter (not much experienced in Drupal but I do know my way around http)

Many thanks Peter! Still a mystery as to how the headers got scrambled, but this at least tells me to try removing the offending files and loading them again.
Best regards,
