I screwed up. I installed image_assist 5.x-1.4 on Drupal5.2and now I can't insert image inline. The code is incomplete, namely it drops img tag all together, including the path. I should had stayed with 1.1 (or was it 1.0?).
So, I installed 5.x-1.x-dev on my local server. Yes, I followed the detailed instruction. Now thickbox interferes image browser. Pretty exciting, but totally useless.
I need to go back to working version. I have all the module tar files backed up. My question is if it is OK to install older version, or will this screw up the database? Any help would be appreciated.
Since I was hoping to start working tonight, I went ahead and replaced with img_assist-5.x-1.1 on my local server to see if it works.
The good news is the image browser is back, and all the missing images showed up. The bad news is I still can't place inline image since it completely drops img tag and its path.
I am going to bed for now. Hope someone has a good suggestion soon :-)

The dropped img tag sounds like the wrong ``input filter'' is applied.

It's actually before the filter is applied. When you insert an image with img_assist, and before I save the node, I get this:
<SPAN class="inline left"><A href="/" onclick="launch_popup(585, 312, 386); return false;" target="_blank"></A><SPAN class="caption" style="width: -2px;"><STRONG>Apple Macintosh G4 Dual 450MHz</STRONG></ SPAN></SPAN>
It used to be <img src...> right before </A> tag, but not anymore. I could type in the tag with the path manually, but that will be a tedious workflow.
Is there any better way to do inline images between paragraphs, that popup onClick() without killing thickbox I am using in other sections?
The answer is possibly. The way to tell for sure is to look in the .install file and look at the code in it. If they don't alter table structure then you're good to go. If theres an update_(SOMENUMBER) hook that's in the new module that isn't in the old one, then the structure of the database may have changed.
I don't think it will be true for a module like image_assist, cause I don't think it stores any data in the database, but you'd be wise to check.
