Hi I have recently installed the Abac theme on Drupal 5.2. When I set up blocks and specify <none> for the title they still display, yet if I switch to the Garland theme the titles disappear. Complete newbie so I'm not sure if this is a template issue or a css issue or both. Any guidance would be awesome.
Thanks
you're certain that when you switch between the themes and change nothing else that the behavior changes? I just downloaded the Abac theme and looked at the code - it's pretty much line for line the same as Garland - I'm sure mostly the differences are in the css. And whether block titles show up or not is not css dependent.
abac theme block.tpl.php: <?php if ($block->subject): ?> <h3><?php print $block->subject ?></h3> <?php endif;?>
garland theme block.tpl.php: <?php if ($block->subject): ?> <h2><?php print $block->subject ?></h2> <?php endif;?>
only difference is h2 vs h3 which would not cause the behavior you're reporting.

Yah I checked that out and that's the only difference I noticed but can't seem to figure out why it's doing this. The other difference is the page.tplI think but not really sure. If I edit the block and change it back to <h2> like the garland theme there is no difference.

Be sure that when you are working on blocks configuration, you are doing it for the appropriate theme. Each them has its own blocks configuration, so you might be changing the settings to the "wrong" theme.

When working in the /admin/build/block page, check the tabs at the top of the page to make sure that the theme you want is selected.
Thanks Laura but i haven't edited anything in the Abac theme by default it won't hide the block headings when I set it to <none> thru the blocks admin. Am I missing something here? I assume not cause it works fine in Garland theme.

What Laura's saying is that when you are in the blocks admin setting it to <none> is theme dependent - so make sure you are on the tab for your theme when setting the block settings or else it won't work - another way to put it is if you set the block heading to <none> in Garland the header won't show up in Garland but it will still show up in Abac.

Thanks guys, I checked and the <none> was set for all the themes, however I did figure out the issue. I set the menu block to -10 weight then the title appeared even though I had set it to <none> but if I changed it to -9 weight then the title was hidden. Do you think this is a bug?
Thanks again.

That may well be a bug - but why would you set it to -9 ot -10? I leave mine all at 0 unless I have a reason to change them - all my blocks are at 0 except two that are set to 1 and the site orders everything properly. weight is per region so the only reason you'd need to use -10 is if you have 21 modules in the same region that never appear alphabetically (default sort).

to clarify - in the same region, never appearing alphabetically AND appearing on the same page (two blocks can both be at 0 in the same region and be fine if they never appear on the same page)

This would definitely be a bug, but I tried it on Drupal 5.2 with the Abac theme and didn't happen, so I can't verify it. A block with region = none and weight = -10 doesn't appear, and a bug which can't be verified can't be fixed...
Perhaps you have some special circumstances?

I don't think weight has anything to do with it. I think it is your JS for your browser. I have seen the title appear and disappear by rapid clicking of the mouse. The title may be hidden for three or four refreshes and may remain visible for the same number of refreshes. So, this really isn't a Drupal issue. The Garland theme does push the limits on JS encodings and if your browser isn't current you may find more than these problems. E.G.: I was using an old Mozilla version and the titles when I clicked to expand them would display below the items for the region instead of above it.
