Hi,
I am trying to get a block to show images as a slideshow. I am finding it difficult to find any plugins which will do this with the least amount of effort.
Can anyone suggest any modules or tutorials to help with this.

There is http://drupal.org/project/ddblock. But I recommend doing it with http://drupal.org/project/view_slideshow (there is a dd_block plugin for that as well).
