Hello, I have a Centos Server with Plesk 8.6 which I use primary for Drupal sites. Do you recommend to upgrade to a 9.2 version which allows me to choose the PHP mode for each domain? (Apache modules, FastCGI, CGI) Thank's!
Marolijo,
I am guessing you actually meant if it is advisable or safe to do so. Which control panel you use in your hosting server does not affect drupal in any way. All that matters is that PHP works and a MySQL/PostgreSQL server is available as far as server software goes. I don't think anyone in this list is in the position to push for and express a good opinion of Plesk 9.2 as this is a list about Drupal CMS and not hosting control panels.

Ok I'll try to change the question... In terms of performance do you recommend to run PHP as: 1.- Apache module 2.- FastCGI 3.- CGI
Thank's again!

On a production website, PHP should be run as an apache module.

and you can boost performance by adding eaccelerator (there are a few similar projects)
Eaccelerator compiles the php pages, which makes them execute much faster. You really notice the difference, even on small sites.

APC (Advanced Php Cache) does the same thing as eAccelerator. They both have (almost) identical performances, they divide per 2 the PHP execution time.
APC is maintenained by Zend (people who maintain PHP), and will be integrated to PHP 6 core engine.

Also with APC you can use the Cacherouter module and store Drupal's cache inside of APC, greatly reducing the number of MySQL queries needed and increasing performance even more.

Be careful with APC caching, you must have *a lot* of RAM. I would prefer a solution like memcache to do this. But for small sites, APC caching might be a great solution.
