I'm guessing that you have a module that has got some kind of a print statement in it that's causing this. It looks like there's an at the beginning of each page load. Have you enabled or upgraded any new modules lately? Try disabling them.
The is causing the Ajax calls to be unable to parse the response.
It is probably the result of your admin_menu problem as well.

Accidentally put these in the front of a module <p> </p> <p> </p> (Perils of using DW.) . before the <?php statement. How did you fathom that? From the error msg?
