I would recommend the company that hosts my site http://robwire.com They are only $6.95 a month and include 10 gigs of space, 250 gigs of transfer, and you can run 6 domains on the same account. They also have shell access, CPanel with Drupal and a lot of other CMS systems, etc. I have tried a number of hosting companies and this is one of the better ones at a reasonable price.

But they're not for everybody in the world. If most of one's intended audience were located in Asia, for example, one would want to host geographically close to that audience to reduce network latency while they browse. Thus, hosting at a company in North America might not be the best choice.
