Our student newspaper is dropping their print edition and they've approached me about doing the paper online using Drupal. I think it's a great idea, and would like to ask if anyone has done this? If so, feel like sharing tips, experiences, handy modules, pitfalls, etc? Thanks!

Hi Gary,
There's a handful of folks with similar experiences sharing their success, problems, best practices, and ideas at http://groups.drupal.org/newspapers-on-drupal
Periodically there are announcements of high school or college newspaper migrations that you should be able to find in the group.
After joining groups.drupal.org and becoming a member of the Newspapers group I suggest reviewing the list of other groups at http://groups.drupal.org/groups which may lead you to more resources (local or topical) that could be useful.
Regards, Greg
Hello, Gary,
There will also be some overlap with the work going on within the Education group: http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-education
Cheers,
Bill

Hello, all,
I'm finding it a challenge getting a hold of reliable information about Organic Groups or people discussing common OG problems, and I was wondering if there's a similar group for it just like there is for Drupal in Education, and Drupal for Newspapers? If anybody knows please let me know.
There are a lot of modules out there and sifting through them and determining what works and what doesn't is a daunting task.
Please let me know.
Moses

You might also look at the published case studies on Popular Science and the New York Observer. Drupal has evolved since then but you might get some site recipe ideas there.
Best, Laura

It might be worth a look at ProsePoint, a distribution of Drupal specifically designed for newspapers.

Hey Gary,
For what it's worth, you might have a look at ProsePoint (www.prosepoint.org ) - they've built a custom version of Drupal using an installation profile and some custom modules that delivers an interesting solution for newspaper-style sites. Maybe you cannot use it "out of the box", but it looks great for ideas and inspiration. I am using it for a personal project.
Whatever solution you settle with, I'd like to hear about it, too. :-)
Regards,
-Brian
