I am running Drupal 6.20 and CiviCRM 3.3.5 on Media Temple hosting on (gs) MySQL Container Lite. I have access to edit my php.ini and my.cnf file. The drupal set-up is not "live" but we are using the CiviCRM for our membership stuff now. Last week I started doing major theme work on the drupal site to get it ready for live, and, at some point in that process, the CiviCRM "broke" in that now I'm getting error messages whenever I try and access the entire database. I get some variation of this error message:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 77824 bytes) in /nfs/c02/h09/mnt/25571/domains/mana.org/html/drupaltest2/sites/all/modules/civicrm/CRM/Core/BAO/UFGroup.php on line 1493
The first part is always the same up to the amount tried to allocate and then it's always a different file and line number.
The only thing that appears wrong with the drupal set-up is, when I clear the cache, I get this error message (always the same message):
warning: realpath() [function.realpath http://mana.org/drupaltest2/admin/settings/function.realpath]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/var/tmp) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/25571/domains/mana.org/html/:/home/25571/data/tmp/:/home/25571/domains/mana.org/application/) in /nfs/c02/h09/mnt/25571/domains/mana.org/html/drupaltest2/includes/file.inc on line 190. warning: realpath() [function.realpath http://mana.org/drupaltest2/admin/settings/function.realpath]: open_basedir restriction in effect. I have read forums, edited my php.ini and my.cnf files, changed the theme back to garland, etc. etc. and I can't get anything to fix CiviCRM.
Any help greatly appreciated!!!!
Tina
This was one of the first "errors" I encountered when working with Drupal. You need to find the "memory_limit" setting in your php.ini or settings.php file and set it way up. I run with 128M. Tony

Agreed, specifically the following line is telling you that setting is about 33M, not 128M.
Allowed memory size of 33554432

Hum . . . but it is . . . so what does that mean? This is from just part of my php.ini file, is my syntax incorrect??

Syntax looks fine. Is this really the php.ini file that is being read/used by your installation? Ursula

Well, I just double-checked what the hosting support says, and they actually had a php.ini.sample file, and they tell you how to change the file name to php.ini and make edits. It's in the etc folder right where they put it.

Despite what the minimum requirements say, realistically, there is no way you're going to run a real Drupal installation in 32MB. Even when I just do a simple small node display, Devel tells me I'm using 28MB. Add Views or image processing on top of that and you've easily exhausted 32MB. You might get by with 64MB, but I just won't even set up a site with less than 128MB. You say you have access to php.ini, so go in and change the setting.

Hello Tina,
The version of your PHP might also influence the performance. My CiviCRM with D6 'broke' when I changed to PHP 5.3. After returning to the previous version all 'errors' and WSOD were gone.

THANK YOU to everyone who answered!! Eljay, I knew I had done something on setting the php version, so I re-read about that and looked in my .htaccess file where you can force a certain version, and there, in the .htaccess, was a limitation on the php memory limit of 32M!!!!! So, after changing that to 128M, it's working!!!!! Tina
