Hello,
I am working on a site for a client (construction) and they would like to setup a portfolio page to display some of their work. The goal is to list all the jobs he's worked on and somehow show pictures for some of the jobs. Ideally I would want the following format:
Title Description Image floating left or right of the Description
The obvious choice is some sort of image gallery, but as I am still fairly new to Drupal, I want to know if there are some better choices. If an image gallery is best, what image module would be best that I can embed a particular gallery?
Thanks for your assistance ahead of time.
I'd use the Views 3 module. It allows for a great deal of versatility.

Before getting into Views, site builder needs a content type and fields which are already laid out pretty well. Seems your on the correct path.
content type = Portfolio fields = title, description, image
Setup an image cache preset to size all images properly. Then use CSS for placement of image.

Thanks for the suggestions. Most of the documentation I find on line is to setup a single gallery. I was hoping to setup multiple galleries (one per job). This is the layout i'd have for the /projects page
Joe Smith Home Desc. Image (click single image and opens colorbox to display gallery of x number of photos)
Bob's Burgers Desc. Image (again clickable for gallery of other photos)
Thoughts?

That sounds like what DrupalGardens provides for multiple galleries. They use D7 Media Gallery Module: http://drupal.org/project/media_gallery which requires: List, Field, Field SQL storage, Options, Number, Taxonomy.
You might try it out on DrupalGardens (set up a free account), and even begin development there, then download the site when you have done all that you can in that environment.

As far as I can tell, Media Gallery only puts the gallery title below the gallery pictures. And it will only put the picture title below the individual pictures. Therefore it does not meet his need. But this is only based on a few hours of my playing with it on a test site. Perhaps more is available through Views or a custom theme template. Note that you must download it and read the README file before trying to enable it - there are several prerequisites not listed on the project page. Hi folks,
It's possible that other modules are needed, in particular the D7 Media module, which is also installed in DrupalGardens. That's why I suggested trying this out there, to see if it meets your needs. Here's a link to the documentation: http://www.drupalgardens.com/documentation/gallery
And here's the intro to that page:
Add media galleries to a new Drupal Gardens site
*Create multi-media galleries on your Drupal Gardens website.* Your users can see slideshows of your images and YouTube videos http://youtube.com/ displayed in a lightbox http://www.drupalgardens.com/documentation/gallery#lightbox floating above your site or you can display individual items on their own pages. The Drupal Gardens media gallery automatically creates thumbnails of your images for you, pulls in video descriptions directly from YouTube and more. You just tag http://www.drupalgardens.com/glossary/26#term1301 and label your stuff, arrange your galleries and items via drag and drop and you are ready to go!
Only thing to note is that only YouTube video can be added for now to galleries.

Hi All,
I figured it would be a good idea to document how I (finally) was able to get this working like I wanted. I deployed in Drupal 7 using Views 3, and Gallery Formatter modules.
"Portfolio" node with Gallery (/portfolio/[node:title]))
1)Create new content type with the following types: Title, Body (or Description), Image.
2)Go into the "Manage Fields" windows and change the "Preview image style" to "galleryformatter_thumb". Set number of files appropriately (I set unlimited).
3) Go to "Manage Display" and change the Format to "jQuery Gallery".
"Portfolio" page to display all "Portfolio" content types (/portfolio)
1) Create a view in Views (duh) with the title you want to give the page.
2)Set the Format to Grid. Settings are your choice, but to keep things clean I did a 3 wide node.
3)Set "Show" to fields, and select the fields from the nodes you want to display. I did things simple: the image and the title of the node.
4)Add Filter Criteria to search for Content type "Portfolio"
Let me know if anyone has questions or if I wasn't clear on anything. Hopefully this helps other beginners.
Very Respectfully, Cesar Covarrubias

Thanks Cesar. Very helpful. I have been wrestling with researching and trying to decide which way to go with a similar gallery. Is it possible you publicize the link of your final version?

Cesar I have a couple questions. Does one need to create 2 fields in the content type in order to hold the thumb and the full image? Do I need to set the sizes in the content type too? If not where are the sizes set?

Tony,
The content type handles the raw files, so you only have to create one field for the image upload.
For each individual node, Imagecache (which is built into D7) handles the resizing. When you install Gallery Formatter, it adds 2 sizes in Imagecache settings (one for slide and one for thumbnail).
For the /portfolio page (which uses Views), you can chose one of the existing/default sizes from Imagecache or create one that works for the width of your content area in your theme.

My images get distorted. Already in the content type. I tried images of 300 by 245. Am I doing something wrong?

Folks: I am using Drupal 6.2 and noticed that when I try to edit my site pages, ckEditor doesn't show the WYSIWYG editing toolbar. It works as expected when I use my laptop or tower computer. All of my coputers are Macs.
Is there some setting or restriction on ckeditor with mobil devices? Thanks, Bill

Summary: doesn't work on iOS devices. http://dev.ckeditor.com/ticket/6089 . May work on other mobile devices.
It's a problem with iOS version of Safari and the lack of support for content editable area:

There's also this:
I have seen stuff posted on Apple's site about it, but it usually ends up getting deleted. My guess is this is something they won't support. Instead an app will have to be made so that they can get that almighty $$$$$.
