My server has stopped sending out email. even though it now says mail sent in the report logd. I have tried meddling with SMtp, PHPmailer to name a few stilll with no breakthrough.

First, sending the same email two or three times does not help you.
Second, from what you wrote it seems to me problem is not with drupal, but with mail server. So I would start checking mail-server logs (if you have access to them)...

Sounds like your MTA (Mail Transport Agent) stopped working. I would contact your hosting company about it.
