Kaushal, There are two steps: 1. You have to make sure that *.doc files can be uploaded in your upload settings (admin/settings/upload, I think). 2. Upload the file like any other file by attaching it to a node. I am sure there are other ways, but this one is what comes to mind. Answering to both Eric and Laura: thanks for your suggestions and comments. Here is my answer. Nothing personal, of course, just an attempt to explain better what I am trying to do, why, and why your proposals (with one exception) are not applicable in my case. I refuse to not use these *real* programs full-screen, in favour of some crippled text editor, or to paste _manually_, every time, what I just wrote in a real word processor in a box slightly bigger than a cell phone display. I am looking for a script solution so I can then connect it to a macro inside a word processor, or a local cron job. Without ever looking to any "blogging client" or web interface. Enough ranting. I was trying to not use it because adding another server (IMAP) or modifying the configuration of the existing one looked "dirty" and prone to security holes (extra accounts, etc...). As I said, I'd rather upload stuff via ssh than email. But you're probably right, if mailhandler can be hacked to run on the local file system it _could_ be a solution. Thanks, O.

Hello, Some days ago I had asked on this list how to add content in Drupal from the mysql command line. I only got one suggestion to try the import_HTML module (http://drupal.org/node/46008) but it really seems an overkill, and not the best approach to what I have to do. I had also asked how to do the same thing in two different ways in the forums: http://drupal.org/node/62954 http://drupal.org/node/68605 without result so far: no feedback from others who posted, who I contacted directly, no usable documentation I could recognize, nothing... Honestly, I can't believe this has never been done before: What I need to do is something that (OUTSIDE Drupal) reads a .txt file like this: ARTICLE_CATEGORIES="travel/england/london, food/foreign/restaurants" TEXT="path/to/some/local/html/file/" CREATED_ON_DATE="YYYY/MM/DD" AUTHOR="John Doe" etc etc.... (other variables like, for example, "create_a_forum_for_this_node") and upload the node inside the Drupal database, just if I had inserted everything by hand in the proper drupal form. I don't want to do it via drupal because I need this to happen regularly and automatically (say, a cron job on my home PC which publishes via ssh whatever file in $DRUPAL_CONTENT folder changed in the last hour): it's not a one-time job. I've also tried to look for scripts doing this via the blogger API (or usable documentation on how to write them so they _are_ drupal compatible): nothing. What am I missing? Is it really possible that everybody is happy pasting and changing stuff manually in a tiny textarea, EVERY darned time some node must be added or updated?? Thanks, O.

What I ended up doing was a combination of $base_url, .htaccess and relative addressing. I found that $base_url was only 1/2 the issue. In addition, I needed a RewriteBase line in my .htaccess file. Finally, I made all of my links relative to the current displayed page. If the current page was www.mysite.com/level1/level2/mypage, then I would crawl up to the root, and then use the other page's true url_alias. This does not work if you have direct links in specific content which shows up on multiple pages at different depths. Luckily, I don't have any of those (see Dashboard for an example of how one node might be used to build another).

Yippee!!!!! I saw the light at last. Not only it *is* possible to add content to drupal from a command line script with existing tools but, apparently, somebody else already did it. I am really, really, really embarassed to not have thought to this approach since day one (*) but you simply have to login and provide the values of the normal drupal form... with curl. Again, I have _not_ tried it myself yet, but once I remembered that this tool exists and what is its purpose, a google search immediately found these pages: http://www.voidberg.org/blog/python_symbian_gps_drupal_and_google_maps.html http://ruk.ca/article/2603 http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Cookbook/Python/Recipe/267255 which seem to confirm that it can (is being) done. Hope this helps everybody else who wanted to know how I would deal with this problem. Note that, if ran on the server after uploading everything via scp, this _may_ also increase security, reducing the number of times you have to send your unencrypted password over the internet.
