I need help with a menu link opening a pop up window

I have a menu item that I need to open a pop up window that would contain an audio player. This window would need to be sized. Usually I would just pop the javascript into the link inline or call a .js. Neither of these appear to be working. Any guidance, thoughts, sample, examples, tutorials, etc. would by HIGHLY appreciated. I have tried to get this answer on the forums for weeks now. I have found info on doing this for a link inside a node, but not for a menu item. I fail to believe I am the first person in Drupal 6 history to want to do this. I've decided that I need to create a niche portal for a topic I've recently discovered I find interesting. My ideas are kind-of grand, but - potentially - flexible, too. The topic for my site is expected to be controversial, sometimes subjective - and usually complex... and the grand aim of the site is to establish a collaborative system in which a vast number of external sources can be referenced, summarised, peer reviewed and, in light of constructive criticism, improved. While I expect and accept that opinions will be posted, it is my aim to structure the site such that material backed by supporting evidence (such as a link to a corroborating document elsewhere on the web) 'floats' to be most prominent. I intend the material to my site to be more structured than that contributed to a Wiki... but to be organised more like a Wiki than a forum or a Slashdot clone. As I see it, the primary challenges I'm faced with are: * I need a bespoke ranking system for contributions - each of which needs an attribution, annotations of sources (maybe referencing one or more earlier contributions), peer-reviewed accuracy and relevance scores... where contributors accrue some sort of score relative to the credibility - which determines their influence on rankings. * I need a bespoke strategy to collate contributions so as to create as coherent a collection of data as possible... including both sides of a debate - if one arose. * While I've a few ideas about the broad structure of contributions now, I expect this to evolve during the lifetime of the site. It is essential that the implementation of the site remains flexible. * Each contribution, I think, can be captured on a "form" - including free-text, labels, dates, numbers - etc. - but contributions are likely to have associations... and I need to be able to display these. * I expect topical conversations - and I'd like keywords to link back to the emerging 'consensus' data - and for discussions to prompt enthusiasm and material to expand the more structured data. * Initially, I expect a very small volume of traffic and data - but I need to be able to cope if this were to grow exponentially... I can't justify building a site for 10,000 concurrent users at the outset (when 10 would probably be a coup) but I don't want to paint myself into a technical corner making it difficult to grow the site in future. In essence, I guess, I'm trying to build a self-organising expert-system based upon the contributions from site visitors - guiding and collating the material that emerges. I've fiddled with out-the-box Drupal 6, and I'm very impressed. I suspect that I may need to develop custom modules in order to achieve what I want - but, for obvious reasons, I hope to make maximum use of modules that already exist - where that reduces the burden of development. My main uncertainties at the moment include: * I'm unsure if I should pursue using the CCK - It seems to target something like what I'm trying to achieve using forms - but I'm uncertain if the DBMS schema that emerges will pose later problems... For example, it seems undesirable to have a 'node' for each of my CCK forms... and I'm concerned about scalability with the definition of views. Is it worth my while to persevere with the CCK, or am I best trying to use a custom module and define my own DBMS schema that way? * Should I start from scratch with my ambtious ideas about ranking contributors and their contributions, or is it a better idea to try to extend an existing modules (Karma, for example)? * Is it likely that I can integrate an emerging 'knowledge base' into a pre-existing forum module, or will I need to embrace/extend - or write my own? I'd be very interested to receive comments from those better versed in Drupal than I am... of all the frameworks I've researched - it shows the most hope... yet quite a lot of hurdles remain. I'd love to know if Drupal is already deployed to run a site with a structure similar to that I've described. I'd also appreciate hints as to suitable books... I've got "Pro Drupal Development" - the Apress one - but that seems to assume I know when I need to write a module, and how it fits into the wider scheme of existing modules. I'm wondering if there is something that covers topics such as making most effective use of the CCK and views... online tutorials seem somewhat ad-hock... if I'm going to use CCK then, I suspect, I'll need to think carefully about the DBMS schema to support later collation. Any pointers and/or hints gratefully received... Steve

Hi all. I need to create a portal with the same functionality of igoogle or linked: a user can move box where he wants. Is it possible with drupal 6 ? For Drupal 5 there is MySite, but no version is ready for D6. Tnx for all.

Anybody know if this exists.... I'm slaving away at a doc for one of my clients which translates the Filters section of all their views into plain English so that Editors can have more confidence filling out node/add forms so that content that winds up in the right place. Hello, i would like to build a community site with drupal 6. Which modules do i need. I want to have profiles per user with photogallery,bookmarks,personal info,status update,blog,friendlist per user. Is this possible with existing modules?If yes is there a tutorial or some instructions on how to do this? About Drupal and update request

Hi all, I have a Drupal 6.8 installed in a windows 2003 pc with apache 2. In this it's no longer possible to make "update request". I think it's related to some new firewall settings. Which URL is invoked when I make an update request? Which port? And in general, which port and URL is better to "open" in a good drupal firewalled configuration (downstream)? How to create "Edit & Save" Action?

Hello Drupal Support, Thanks for the cool code and community. Summary: I am looking for help with creating an "Edit and Save" action in Drupal 6. Details: I am creating viewfields (http://drupal.org/project/viewfield) and adding them to my nodes, but in order for the view to show up on a node I need to click "edit" then click "save" ON EACH NODE (there are hundreds of nodes). The closest thing I have found as a solution is ViewsBulkOperations ("VBO" http://drupal.org/project/views_bulk_operations) VBO will run actions on whatever nodes you choose and an included action is "save", but that does not seem to work. The default, "save" action does not seem to, if you will, click edit first. Hence, I am looking for an "Edit and Save" action. Any suggestions are appreciated. I do not know how to code, but can probably figure it out if it is only messing with a few lines. -- Sincerely, John Thomas

hello, i want secondary menu to be the children of primary links. I have the same menu in Primary links and secondary links (Primary Menu) in the menu settings. But secondary links don't show. I have done it without installing panels and everything is ok. I use drupal 5-x. It takes me two days to understand that the problem whas the panels. Hierarchy & Taxonomy

Hi All, Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find a comprehensive answer anywhere. I have a heirarchical Taxonomy vocabulary, i.e: Tag 1 - Tag 2 Tag 3 - Tag 4 - - Tag 5 Tag 6 How can I output this in a block like a menu? Tried the Lineage module but couldn't seem to get it working... Many thanks T

Hi, The actual problem is providing an API to let modules add META in a more structured way so that eg. the same META is not sent 2 times or module can decide to concatenate further meta or define a "owerwriteability" level. I gave a look to nodewords aka Meta tags but I have stuff that aren't nodes (they aren't views or taxonomies either) that don't fit with the node paradigm too well. nodewords provide a hook to 'prepare' META but it is on a module base. Nodewords needs to be aware of all the content types (or just pages, menu_hook etc...) it can support (*unless I'm missing something...*) but actually what know better which are the most suitable meta for a "content" should be the content producer (be it a "node" or just a MENU_CALLBACK). Other modules like nodewords_bypath and _nodetype do some extrawork to know what actually called the hook. But I'd find myself more comfortable with a different approach: - there is a common API that let me manage META - modules that want to add META use it - when everything is ready drupal_set_html_head get called The problem is: - the API functions should be ready when other modules call them - drupal_set_html_head($meta) should be called last If the weight of my meta module is high, other modules won't find the functions. If the weight of my module is low and I put drupal_set_html_head($meta) in the menu hook, drupal_set_html_head will be called before $meta had the chance to be filled by other modules. I'd say this is a general common problem but I didn't find any "drupalish" way to solve it. The easiest (and somehow elegant) way I thought to deal with this problem was to build up 2 modules with different weight): - meta_prepare (that will offer the functions) - meta_deliver (that will simply call drupal_set_html_head) Is there a more drupalish way to deal with dependency and "order of execution" in drupal? thanks -- Ivan Sergio Borgonovo http://www.webthatworks.it
