I use alternate paths all the time; a preferred location being simply 'files'. I've set up a document upload on the remote server but it defaults to my home directory. I need it to default to /sites/all/documents which is where all the pdf's reside How can I set the default path please Roger

Drupal does not use the database tables for some reason. All the files have been created and populated, drupal uses the theme and the header image as is on the server but nothing of the users, roles, content types, content, views exists in the new installation. One thing I note is the calendar and date modules, if I turn on the modules I get the WSOD and it defaults to those modules turned off. Puzzling! Roger

So it seems I need a vanilla install of the same version of Drupal. Then copy all the /sites/all directories & files across to my machine. Install backup_migrate module on my new installation. Point backup_migrate to the .sql backup I downloaded from the server and things [should] work. Moses mentioned doing a backup of the whole www directory, this is impractical for me for 2 reasons. 1. it's huge and has thousands of files that are of no interest to my Drupal work 2. it would tend to overwrite the /var/www files and system I use on my machine. Instead I did a backup_migrate of the drupal directory For a fresh install I need a database of the same name and password. I don't know the database password. Will using backup_migrate simply write to or recreate that new database or will it overwrite all the files that the drupal fresh install created? I suspect it will overwrite and this is where there could be a conflict between a fresh install and the server copy files. Thanks Roger

Content versioning

Is there a current module that will allow us to do content versioning? That is, I'm looking for a mechanism whereby we can maintain (unpublished) old versions of web pages. We have a request from one of the groups we support to provide this feature. I haven't been able to locate anything but perhaps I'm asking the question in the wrong way. Any ideas? I had to change the name of Book to Document for a very large document at one site. The database name stays as Book but the user sees your chosen name for most of the edits. I am not sure about the scalability so I mentioned it. Another person had used the Tabs Module to create Next and Previous tabs for assigning to particular documents in nodes. Backing up and migrating a drupal site

I have a development site on a remote server. I've installed the Backup_Migrate module and found that it only copies the Drupal code not the database, images, etc. I do not want to continue developing on the remoter server site as the save times can frequently be 1 minute or so even after small changes to css code. So trialing css code changes can take a long time over all. I tried cPanel on the server but the resultant mysql.tar.gz seems to produce only the same as the backup_migrate module produces. When I used the b_m module to restore to my home pc it killed my Drupal installation, WSOD. When I have all the drupal site and mysql database I can develop at home, fix issues then intend to migrate it back to the server but after the current experience am nervous. I can find nothing to help understand the process or what I should or should not be doing in migrating a drupal system. Can someone please advise me. Thanks Roger

Adding next/prev links to node view

Hi all, I have a view that displays a chronological list of nodes of type news_item. I'd like it so that when the user clicks on a link to a particular article, the page they see has a next/prev link. I can see a number of ways to do this: could folk let me know of any issues or other approaches? Many thanks. 1. Use a custom preprocess function to get the appropriate link and update the template to output it. Don't want to reinvent the wheel! 2. Use a 1-item view to display a node, and use View's pager. I read about this method when searching around. I'm not sure how I would create the link to the individual item (ie I'd need an NID -> views page no. conversion), but I'm sure it's doable. 3. Use custom_pagers. It's beta now and has 16 open bugs for 6.x. Haven't really investigated it though. 4. Use prev_next. It's a dev version, haven't tried it out. Can anyone share some ideas?
