intranet/extranet combo - good idea?

Hi, I'll be developing both an intranet and an extranet for a client (a church). Now, I'm thinking of doing this with subdomains and a common codebase, like: www.churchname.com intranet.churchpage.com This would enable single logins for the staff, but I'm curious if this the way to go as I haven't really found a lot of info about these kinds of setups on drupal.org. is this a good way to do it, or do you think I will run into too many problems regarding security and other stuff? Is it better to separate the intra- and extranets? thanks! Morten

Drupal weirdness, please help

Hello, I'm helping a friend get started with her web site which we are planning on creating in Drupal. She has a remote server using CPanel and fantastico and it's through this that we have installed Drupal. When we installed, nothing seemed to go wrong, it indicated that the installation had gone all right but when we started enabling modules and create user roles the following error message started to appear: user warning: Got error 28 from storage engine query: SELECT DISTINCT b.* FROM blocks b LEFT JOIN blocks_roles r ON b.module = r.module AND b.delta = r.delta WHERE b.theme = 'garland' AND b.status = 1 AND (r.rid IN (2) OR r.rid IS NULL) ORDER BY b.region, b.weight, b.module in /home/nanna/public_html/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 172. After this we no longer can access administrative tasks and we can't do anything else than read the newly created home page and the pages it points to, but no user login or nothing. What could I/we have done wrong? Do i have to uninstall the whole system and reinstall it again? /Krister

linking the categories

Okay, my latest question about to ensure 'uniqueness of values' was unanswered This could be because it was (again) an unclear question (apologies if thats the case) Or because nobody knows the answer. This is a case of having hit a limitation of the current module, or simply not knowing how to use it Let me try again. same module (taxonomy) I need to find out a clever way to structure our 'categories' and 'tags' in a way that they can be be combined I think this can be done by creating a hierarchy of vocabularies/categories so what I wonder is can I make a category become the parent or child of another category? at the moment I dont see this option (I can see that I can make a term become the child or parent of another term, but what I need is a group of terms to be the parent of another group of terms) The reason why I need this, its because the drop down menus at the moment are toooo long. For each term, I have say 10 child terms, which in turn have 10 child terms so its very difficult to select the right one(s) cause one gets lost before finding the right category Plus I cannot selectively make one term mandatory, say a parent, and the children optional (for those who may want to have more granular keywords) So one way of doing that (perhaps) would be for each parent term have a new 'category', so that each parent term can be made mandatory (hence creating a superstructure) and then making one or more children optional, and then linking a freeflowing tags to that. people schema

okay, foaf is not that good really but its the only people schema in use is there a way of implementing a better people xml for drupal? doesnt have to be foaf has to be a people schema, flaxible so that users can create their own field I think profile module can be easly used for that (add a field) but I need to export the profiles via xml, both individually, selectively as an aggragate feed (select all the profile with tha criteria and export to xml) does drupal have something like this in mind? CCK add field behaving differently on 2 sites, why?

I have 2 Drupal-5 sites (I think it is 5.1x) and I have CCK, Date, TinyMCE, Viewfield and Views on both. Different themes, but nothing weird - standard Drupal themes that have not yet been customized. On one site, when I go "Add Field" to create or edit a content type, I get a dropdown list of existing fields. On the other site, I just get a "create new field" box. Naturally, the second one is where I need a content type that has the same fields 12 times (for a list of wine selections, I need 12 fields for "vintage" etc). The only thing that I know is different is the first site has Organic Groups, but why would that make content type behave differently? I haven't configured TinyMCE yet on the second site, would that matter? Liniing one database to another

Hello, I'm trying to implement a database of Belgian beers. Therefore, I created 2 different nodes with CCK: 1 for the brewer, 1 for the beer. Now I need a link between the node of the beer and the node of the brewer. The purpose is that, when I enter a beer, I can link it to a brewer, without typing in all the data of the brewer. And when the beer is visible, a simple link to the brewer must be shown. And if you click on that link, the node of the brewer opens with all the data and the beers that the brewer is brewing. I've already looked at Node Family, but I do not understand it very good. Can some-one help ? Kind regards, Steven Vermoere

Batch tagging or update of nodes

A beginner's questions

Hi, I'd like to set up a VPS hosting two sites (in two different domains), on top of Ubuntu (Debian) Linux. I'd like to know the following: - how do I configure the two sites, sharing a single Drupal installation, to use different configuration and databases? My web server is Apache; - is it possible to theme different parts of the same site differently? E.g. my wife would probably prefer different colours for her blog than I would for mine :-) TIA, Kofa

Theme a CCK input form

There is a fantastic handbook with the name "Theme a CCK input form" that I used for another site and it worked perfectly. For this other site, however, it fails. I am trying this method: http://drupal.org/node/101092#comment-262746 in the comments of that handbook page, yet the function function phptemplate_node_form($form) { in template.php is never called on node/add/d which is my CCK content type. In fact print_r($form); reveals that $form is empty. This site was built (or mostly built) by someone else so I don't know what they may have done. Anyone have any ideas about what is going on? Update CCK Node via Code

I wrote a custom module which updates one value in my content_type_d table. Code appears to work perfectly. The problem is that when I view the node afterward in the browser, the new value is NOT seen. Even though I confirm that the new value IS in MySQL, the old value appears on the page. The only way to get a new value to appear is to edit the node manually. The field type is integer text field. I realize there is something that I am missing. Can someone clue me in? Thanks.
