I went to a lot of effort to get the menu links the way the designer wanted them, only to find the contextual links for the menu occupying some space at the right end of the menu bar. This is a Zen subtheme in D7. I really need to get the nav bar to span 100% left to right. Anyone have any advice on what to do with the links? I don't mind them even going completely away as long as all the other blocks keep theirs.

why not add a css rule in your theme to hide them?

Hi Nancy, * * Try * *visibility: hidden;* * in CSS. It will hide the icon, and space will be there.

display: none; makes the icon go away, but doesn't give the space back.

Display none should have done the trick, there must be something else that's the problem. If you can provide access, i'd be happy to take a look.

Also, try turning off contextual links module, or opening the devtools in chrome or firebug in FF and delete the html for the contextual link, see if that fixes the issue, if not then it has nothing to do with the links.

There was a miscalculation in the width of the LI elements. Everything is okay now.
Thanks everyone.
