Hi all, I need to make an offer for a client. He has a D5 site and want to make some changes before switch to D7. I want to switch it to D6, before changes. But I can not ask him money to switch from D5 to D6 and after from D6 to D7 if D7 will be out in few mounth.
So, does someone know a estimated release date ? or period.
Tnx and sorry for my bad english.
D7 will be ready when the 412 critical issues that are now in your right column on drupal.org are solved.
Some are guessing it will be out around march/april 2010, but depending how fast it goes solving the critical issues this estimate might change. If you look at Amazon for the estimated publishing date of most new Drupal 7 books they also seem to guess for april 2010 at the moment.
When upgrading from D5 to D7 you will have to upgrade first to D6 anyway. Theming changes of course you have to do only for D7.

You can see some interest on the topic at http://www.hubdub.com/m35392/When_will_Drupal_70_be_released
The more people who sign up and bet on that question, the more likely it is to be accurate.
Cheers, Greg
An addendum to what Hans wrote. It is not as if there are 412 official bugs that have to get solved and that the number of critical bugs is always reduced. There are still a lot of bugs being found as well. That number goes up as well as down.
According to d.o. there are currently only 400 installations of D7 "phoning home" to d.o. The peak was 1,000 installs during the week of Oct. 4. But a lot of commits were made during code "slush." There are a lot of really great changes, but there are also a lot more bugs to report.
So download D7, play around, find and report those bugs.
As for Greg's hubdub thingy, in March, '09 I predicted: after April 1, 2010. I'm pretty sure I'm going to take home some "money" on that one!

In addition, don't forget ot compound this question with, "when will the contrib modules for the site be available on D7". Many contrib module maintainers have vowed to have releases ready on the d7 release date, but you'll want to check that before you commit to your client. Good luck....

Neil, I think "farce" is a real exaggeration and isn't fair. Anyone scratching the surface at all in their research of Drupal would would have easily discovered that CCK and Views were essential components and that they weren't going to be ready for some time after D6 release.
I just can't believe that serious people make business decisions without doing research. I think 15 minutes of research by someone completely new to the community would have revealed exactly what the release of D6 meant.
I do think it was a PR problem and there was lots of disappointment. And I think adjustments have been made.

D6 was being promoted from the front page of d.o from the first day of its release. This is why the forums filled up with "port to D6?".
I'm glad to see changes have been made. They've been made for a reason...they were needed. ----- Original Message ----- From: Shai Gluskin To: support@drupal.org Sent: Wednesday, November 18, 2009 2:22 PM Subject: Re: [support] When D7 will be avaible ?

I think the last estimate on this list was hopefully beginning next year. They hope that this time it takes less time to have contributed modules available than with 6.x, but I would count a couple of months in for the modules. Also how to develop now in D7? Seems to be more difficult at the moment than with 6.x. For me this sounds likely that you will end up with 6.x for the moment unless your client wants the site to be completed in spring or summer 2010.
