Search and Replace

When I used to HTML by hand, search 'n' replace was easy with text editor. I finally made the site live last night by modifying htaccess, only to find path written in node bodies are all wrong. Where it says: src/href="sites/.. It should had said: src/href="/sites/.. There are million places I have to edit. How can I do this Search and Replace in one shot? P.S., I like Image_assist because thumbnail popups to original sized image. I don't like Filtered HTML since I don't get full control, but Image_assist puts absolute path including the domain name so I typed path manually every time I added image. Now it's biting me. Embedding image and make it act as I wish has been one of the most frustrating issues with Drupal so far. I am also frustrated AcidFree. How to deal with Taxonomy?

After going live, I realized a Taxonomy gotcha. For example, user may click on Audio Clips category, which is made with Book. No breadcrumb. Custom breadcrumbs works per node type only. This creates the same headache as Acidfree does. Even worse, because I created each Audio Clip pages with Book, and I need node type to be displayed whether it is video clip or article when visitor clicks on a Term View, say "Trio", Audio Clips are listed as Book pages. Like Acidfree, since there is no way to duplicate the Book node type, I can't rename this one and only Book node type to Audio Clip because it will change other places where they are not Audio Clips. Taxonomy seems to be the hart of the Web2.0, and it took me a lot of trial and error to learn about it, but I am still not sure how to handle this. Staging question

Thanks for many helps from this list, I am getting close to deploy a Drupal site. Since I can't stage on my local machine (ISP uses MySQL v4, which I can't find download for OSX, and I already burnt once by uploading v5 file from my local machine), I need to create a staging site on my server. I created a duplicated DB, renamed 'stage'. The question is the next step. Do I have to duplicate everything to stage.<sitename>.com directory? I really do not wish to do this since, not only audio/video files are big, synching the two might be a nightmare. I googled around. Permission question

During my first Drupal site build process, I received quite a few error messages, and I made a lot of stuff to 777. 'files' directory is one. 'modules' directory is another. You might remember I had 99/99 problem that won't let me chown, and file upload silently fail. Now before I go live, I want to make sure all the permissions are set correctly. Other than settings.php permission setting, I can't find any mention of what others are supposed to be. Is there any list or general guide about this somewhere? I experienced a lot of stuff just don't work if 775, which is kinda puzzling. Can't Login!

I am having a most puzzling problem. I can't login only with FireFox 1.5.0.12 on Mac OSX10.4.9. It just started an hour ago. No problem until then. I need to stay with v1.5 on this machine, by the way. When I try logging in, it attempts to transfer data then all the sudden Garland's right side bar, where the login is, refreshes, and sits there. If I try login from /?q=user I get 403 error. Huh? I disabled caching, deleting cookies, powercycle everything (just in case) but to no avail. I am running out of options, but I can't say I know FireFox that well so I might be missing something. Safari is fine. Opera is also fine on this very same machine. FireFox is the only one. On my WinXP machine, the same FireFox version is doing just fine. Evernote DB - full "corporate brochure" thread in useful form

Evernote, even the freeware version, is a "web/email clipping database tool" that allows for very quick creation and tagging of "knowledge snippets" in a form that allows for very quick retrieval either by category navigation or keyword searching. It also preserves layout and links to the original page. In other words, an EXCELLENT tool for anyone looking to capture the wealth of information available here in a much more useful form than its current container. (If your knee just jerked defensively in response to the implied criticism, please see the end of this post). I've already clipped most of the Handbook and a lot of the rest of drupal.org and am in the process of tagging/categorising it. As a demonstration, I have broken the (very valuable but overwhelmingly disorganised, just like drupal.org as a whole) "corporate brochure site recipe" mega-thread at http://drupal.org/node/31896 up into logical pieces, categorised it (on vs off topic) and for the on-topic contributions, broken out summaries of the various pieces (Navigation, Front page, About, Contact, Products, News, Theme and of course Miscellaneous). The result of this work (a 75 kb zip containing an Evernote v2 .enb file), is attached. And of course if anyone else is inspired by these ideas and would like to share Evernote clips by email, please do contact me. ------------ To the founders and long-serving members of the drupal community PLEASE DON'T take this wrong (I'm just a well-intentioned noob here, and one that loves what you all have so selflessly created in drupal) - but: I honestly believe that Drupal (at least in the way it's implemented here), is not a great tool for storing such a large set of contributions from such a large set of different people over time without a dedicated central editorial team organising it for easy retrieval by learning noobs such as myself. If Drupal could (can) be set up to do even most of what Evernote does, well I don't know how to express the joy I'd feel without being obscene :) In the case of the drupal.org, I can certainly understand the communities desire to eat its own dog food (it is a website after all) but the knowledge-hungry dog (ie people wanting to enter the community) would be much better served if the information were stored in a more accessible form. (See others' comments on search - hey why not just leverage off Google, put that as an option right in the core search features? And yes of course I've doing 99% of my searching there using "site:drupal.org") In fact, I'd go so far as to say that drupal.org actually does a disservice trying to be the premier demonstration site for people coming to learn about drupal. If people could quickly find what they needed during their climb up the learning curve, I reckon Drupal's use would skyrocket. {Hey wait a minute, maybe making Drupal so hard is being done intentionally to cut down on "noob overhead", the lazier/stupider potential users are eliminated in the first hundred hours of trying to figure Drupal out?} And yes, of course once I've gotten over the learning hump and actually start using Drupal in my work, I plan to contribute as much as I can afford to in whatever ways I can (not being a coder) - to the documentation team, testing etc.

I can't answer your specific questions, but I wanted to suggest any new project be started in 5.x. 6.x should be out sometime next Fall so starting a version behind to begin with is not a good idea.
