hierarchical site, taxonomy, styling, and structure

Hi there, I'm presently considering using drupal (4.7) for a new project. The idea is to have a hierarchy of sub-sites, all managed by a single drupal installation, with a well-designed taxonomy. Is it possible to let drupal serve sub-site-specific styles, as well as blocks (menus) ? I expect sub-sites to be maintained by different groupes of people, and so I want to let them design their own website layout / styling, with a minimum of constraints to still be able to cross-link and navigate across the whole site. long username getting truncated at the bottom of blog posts

I have a user with a long (real name as user) name - the "Submitted by" under her blog posts is truncating it as "Submitted by Firstname La...". There is extra space in the container - the author and date don't fill the entire width, but it's cutting off the name before the date field. How can I make it show the full user name? I can't tell from searching whether this needs to be fixed in the theme css or in the template files or what. It's not even an unusual name. Multiple values as one argument in a view

Is it possible to pass multiple values as one argument in a view? For example, Say I have a CCK field with 4 options: 0 | red 1 | green 2 | blue 3 | white I want to pass these values to my view, using a URL like http://example.com/color/0 This is very easy. But - How can I use one argument, to show me two colors? I tried the following with no success: http://example.com/color/1,2 and http://example.com/color/1+2 Neither worked. Any ideas? Do I have to create two separate views for that (one that uses URL arguments and another one using filters)? Zohar

www being dropped from the URL . . .

I have a site up that has an odd behavior I'd like to correct. Whenever a submit button is pressed, even for logging in, the www part is dropped from the URL, and all subsequent pages are displayed sans www. The site appears to work correctly either way, but I'd still like for it to stop switching over. Bits of dynamic drupal integrated with static site

Noob here, but I've put in several hundred hours of Drupal reading (about ten hours worth of material, rest spent digging finding it and yes I hope to have time to contribute to the docs team) and a couple dozen hours on the installation/configuration of my XAMPP/SVN-based localhost stack running from a thumbdrive - lots of fun so far! We're in the middle of doing a complete overhaul of our site design, not just look & feel but also navigational structures, so this is a perfect opportunity to switch over to a CMS, both as a learning experience for myself and for our site's ability to expand with dynamic community features in the future. 98% of the pages will be static; in fact the only "dynamic" feature I see us using to start with is the contact module! I completely realize this isn't "how it's done" in Drupal-land, but please humour me if you will. I'd like to generate everything from Drupal on my localhost using wget etc., and then upload that static 98% to our shared host account as plain old html/css to avoid the unnecessary performance drag of the overhead involved with dynamically generating content that's never changing. Dynamic features like contact forms (and in future login to forums) will be handled from standalone sections linked to from primary navigation, rather than integrated into every page. So what I'd like is for the usual 99.9% of our visitors to browse the static HTML portions of our site, but to have Drupal "ready to kick in" when one of them clicks on Contact Us. I'm having trouble visualising how Drupal will keep track of what the visitor's doing, in fact I reckon it can't as long as they're in "static land". OK, just thinking "out loud" here (PLEASE correct me if I'm totally off base) what about using Drupal's multi-site feature and have each "trigger spot" of functionality be a separate site (only technically, as far as the Drupal plumbing is concerned) with its own customised "front page", blocks config etc.? e.g. contact.example.com brings up the contact form, in the future - forums.example.com, news.example.com etc. - would bring you to their specific areas of the site. Would this same "multi-site" capability be possible with subdirectories rather than subdomains? e.g. Could example.com/contact example.com/forums example.com/news be treated as separate sites by Drupal? I imagine a solution for this would involve mod_rewrite and/or .htaccess - anyone willing to point me in the right direction? (even if you think I'm actually headed for a dead end <g>) Of course, I would want the user to feel that they are just navigating one site - all of these "sub-sites" would share the same database and theme folder etc. in settings.php, correct? In fact off the top of my head, only the administration settings would be different. . . Thanks in advance Hans

Taxonomy access problem

I needed to hide Category assignment when user is creating a content. I installed Taxonomy Access Control module, which worked, but then realized I have to have default Category assigned on these nodes, or these user-created nodes get lost in the long list of contents list (I much liked Joomla's content admin filter design). So, I installed Taxonomy Default module, only to realize I, the admin also loose access to Category assignment. I disengaged Taxonomy Default module from the module list, not really understanding what needs to be done to uninstall, I found Taxonomy Access module no longer works. No matter what setting I change, the result is unaffected. Something went wrong. At this point, I am happy if Category assignment fields disappeared from Create Content on users. Views, Book, Panel

I am going to try to explain my problem as clear as possible, but I am confusing myself here as well. 1) Is there any way to print block(s) into the content of a book page so it appears above the book navigation? 2) I created a Panel page, but I can't find the way to Outline this page to a book. How can I do this? 3) I created a table view, which lists image nodes from 3 different terms, those which are sorted by their terms. However, I need to have the name of the term as the section title at the beginning of each sorted section, followed by <hr /> would be also nice. Right now, I have to print term names to each listed image node, which is very annoying. How do you convert one node type into another?

Good morning. Here's a question dealing with node types. I have had to parse out NODE TYPE ACCESS per ROLE. So my editors and front page contributors have access to the node type BLOG but members only have access to FORUM. I have done this because I could not find a way to queue posting to the front page based on ROLE, not on node type. So for example, I would have loved to give everybody access to the node type BLOG but only allow the roles "editors" and "contributors" immediate PROMOTE while putting the role "member" on QUEUE. In trying to find a better way to deal with these PROMOTE issues, my earlier use of the node STORY muddled things further. At the beginning I was giving STORY to contributors --as a middle ground between only access to forum and having a blog. GRACK! I wish I had not done that. I want to retire STORY but I can't because then everybody using those nodes would not have access to them. So I was wondering, can I just go into the DB (and in my case PATHAUTO) and change the type of STORY nodes into BLOG or is there anything else that I need to take into consideration? book per user?

Is it possible to control access to book nodes in such a way that each user could have their own book, viewable by others, but editable only by them? Actually, my ideal situation would be to have the ability to specify a small set of users who could edit each book, while it remained viewable by all. Or some other heirarchy of nodes, similar to what books provide. Organic Groups are not an option. They're being used for something else on the site, and the settings required by one use conflict with those needed by the other.
