I have a D7 site live and working. I copied the database and /sites folder and did a fresh install of D7.23 to my pc about a month ago. Using that on my Fedora 19 desktop version for development ideas, all worked well and I was doing some dev work till late last night.
Today I cannot open that Drupal localhost/mydev . I have a localhost/sandbox site which does work. All file ownerships and permissions are the same on sandbox and mydev. To use, localhost/mydev wants to do a fresh installation. /sites/default/settings.php is the same as it was last night but even after chmod 777 settings.php, install reports that it does not exist. /sites/default/files is the same as last night but it reports that /sites/default/files does not exist.
I suspect that it may be an ownership problem where /files and settings have to be owned by apache but have not had this issue on other test dev sites, or maybe apache has calked it again but that does not explain the /sandbox site working.
Can someone please advise me on what to look for and what permissions should apply to appropriate files, perhaps even suggest why things may have changed between last night and this afternoon.
Most curious Thanks in advance Roger
The files are fine. It's reading them.
Seems more like a database issue.

Try stoping and starting the server. I've had that happen before. It sounds like it's just not looking at the correct db.

I'm still trying to get Event registrations cleaned up on my site. If I could only exchange a few emails or better yet have a 1/2 hour phone conversation with someone in the know, I think I'd be in great shape.
I have it working more less, but not ready for prime time. I think my greatest source of confusion is exactly what modules are used for the latest and greatest version of event registrations. In my searching, I have learned that this particular functionality has gone through a rather extensive evolution over time. If I'm not mistaken, the latest and greatest collection of modules required are Registration, Registration Entity Access, Registration Views, Registration Waitlist. If I'm not mistaken Entity Registration, and EVA are not required. I think one of my problems is I still have one or both of those modules mixed in making things clunky. I realize that the documentation for modules has to assume a certain level of Drupal knowledge, and my level of knowledge is maybe getting past beginner at this point. But, still the 2 pages I've found leave do little to clear my confusion. Maybe I'm asking for more idiot proofing like these modules are NOT required (EVA, Entity Registration) for instance in this case...I think. I thank any replies in advance, and apologize in advance if there is a more relevant post somewhere. I'm going through the documentation once again. Phil
Hi Philip,
We are also wanting to get an event registration Drupal 7 application going. I'd like to find out which documentation you have please. I've googled, but don't see anything straightforward as you describe.
Thanks.

Hi Kathleen, Yes, I guess the sad truth is what I described is as straightforward as it gets. Also, however I'm not sure how accurate. I'm trying to stir up some involvement of the Folks That are "in the know".
One thing I think I have learned today is that the Entity Registration model is often called just the "Registration" module. They are one in the same.
The only documentation I have is the front page of the module. https://drupal.org/project/registration
The readme,,,, http://drupalcode.org/project/registration.git/blob/refs/heads/7.x-1.x:/READ...
And an issues forum. https://drupal.org/project/issues/registration Everybody here is currently over my head. I only have 5 months Drupal experience under my belt which makes implementing something like this very difficult. There's still a lot of Drupal concepts that I haven't nailed down.

Hi Phillip,
Perhaps I can help if you tell us why you want to use Event registrations. In site forms? In a commerce site? And any reason.

Hi Howard, I'm re-writing this website. http://www.nhd.uscourts.gov/ We occasionally have training events where we need to manage registrations. If you click on Important information we are having Mediation Training this Friday. Entity Registrations fits the bill really well. I was happy to find it. It would take a lot to create this from scratch. I have more than a decade of .net/C# experience, but just 5 months with Drupal. The decision to go Drupal was made after I was hired. I'm not only new to Drupal, but I have minimal previous content management experience as well. However, it's gone pretty well. 80% of it was cake. I'm down to the last few difficult tasks and it'll be a win. There's a few Drupal concepts I'm still struggling with. Hooks, and custom themes, modifying templates to name a few.
I had a similar task where management wants to post announcements. (Like the gavel icon). I ended up writing it in PHP outside of Drupal. As I was writing it, it clicked and I started seeing how I could have done it within Drupal using views, content types, etc. It was like, Oh so that's what all the hoopla is about, I can see how I will leave this website where smart people with little programming experience will be able to carry on with its management and control their own destiny.
But I digress. The Events utility is getting pretty close now with just a few issues left. I have 2 views. One view is so management can list the events, go on and see how many are registered, change settings etc. That is just about 100%. The module pretty much gives that to you out of the box.
The other view is for people off the street. It needs to just list the events and have a link to register. I can't get the link right. I get the registration form, but it doesn't link it to the event when complete. Also, I need to mask out the management functionality (Get rid of the "Manage Registrations" tab, but keep the "Register" tab).
It's hard to give you enough specifics so you can understand where the problem is. The Drupal site is still behind the firewall, so I can't point you to what I have so far. In my researching, it sounds like I need to modify a template or create a theme which is a bit above my current ability.
The other issue is that it fills up to capacity and just keeps on going without placing people on waitlist or giving warning. I see that other people have had this issue, but haven't had the chance to read through it. Looks like this is what I want. https://drupal.org/node/2018741
I don't know if I've given you enough information to help me. I do appreciate the effort in any case. At the very least it's helped me quantify and dissect my issues. I have time. I'm going to take a little break from this. I have about a months worth of work in another project to set up some email ListServ's. Again, thanks in any case, Phil
