Mail to forum?

I am trying replicate the functionality of yahoo or google groups. That is, the ability to allow people to have discussions via email that are also stored on the web as threaded discussions and are searchable. I've tried some combinations of modules but haven't come up with anything that does quite what I want. I'd like this to work withing Organic Groups. I did activate Forum, and installs OG Forum and Subscription and Subscription OG so that group members should be able to receive email notice of posts to the Group's forum, but to reply they will have to return to the site. I'm running 5.7 on this site. Thanks for any help offered.

I think the question is more in the realm of what are the best practices for placing existing html static files within a Drupal hierarchy? If I have an existing site of several thousand static html files (which we do), should they all be placed under /home/drupal/public_html/sites/mysite.com/files ? Or is there a better way to do this? Thanks for that tip. I should not that when I first started tinkering with Drupal (4.7), I too an existing site and just overlaid Drupal on top of it. Most of the existing site stayed where it was directly under public_html and only newer stuff got put in the files directory. Yes, Drupal's home page took (index.php) took over from index.html, but that was OK and intended. I then used the Drupal home page menus to direct to existing pages of the old site. that worked fine and it gave us a new Drupal install going forward while allowing us to convert the old files to Drupal over time. But that was with only one Drupal site. Once we got into ver. 5 and now ver. 6, newer sites are starting out with Drupal and we converted to the multi-site hierarchy, which is great. So I'm really looking for a way -- with an existing large site -- to fold in Drupal into the multi-site hierarchy. Again, I hope I'm making this clear and thank you for your responses.

(noob) highlighting primary/secondary links (.active)

I've posted to the post-install forum without result; perhaps my posting was just too long, or I shouldn't ask multiple questions in a single message? (Thanks to Larry for answering my previous post) http://drupal.org/node/258969 So here I'll just ask one (category of) question at a time, but you can respond either here or in a comment there. Using the default setup of the current stable v5.7 - here's my "one" <g> question: I'd like the appropriate primary/secondary links to be highlighted to help orient the visitor while navigating through the site. At a minimum, I'd like this to happen when the visitor actually arrives at a location by using a given menu (see Q2), but really I want to control which links are highlighted even when the user arrives from say a term listing, dated archives, etc. I'd *really* like the highlighting of the menu links to be triggered by the current URL as set by either the core Path module or the contrib Pathauto. Example: a page path'd to somewhere under: "about/facilities" would highlight "about" in the primary links and "facilities" in the secondary. I see from various past postings that the link highlighting is usually done using the ".active class"; please let me know if your suggestion involves another mechanism. I don't want to sound like I'm kvetching (too much) here, but I would have thought that keeping URLs, menu highlighting and (I just thought of the other "path" used for visitor orientation) breadcrumbs in sync for a given node would be something a lot of users would like to see, IMO core functionality for any site management tool. 1. I see the contrib module "Menu Trails" is designed to help with this, but A it is dev only, and this is for a production site, and B it is based on the node's content type or taxonomy terms, not the URL. I was hoping to not get into the complexities of CCK at this early stage of my learning curve, and as far as tagging goes, I can see training the site contributors to set correct URLs on their nodes, but I can't really see them ALSO setting (correctly matching) taxonomy tags. Or is there a way to assign a term based on the assigned URL, or vice-versa. Now *that* (either way) would be great, and not just for this functionality! But Menu Trails is still dev not stable. . . 2. I don't get the menu link highlighting even when the visitor arrived at a page by using the primary/secondary menu navigation. If this isn't a common bug with a known fix, I'll dig further (set up Firebug?) to try to figure out more. 3. Is there a solution that would also tie in with breadcrumbs? Thanks in advance!

howto manage multiple values in a custom node

Hi all, I'm starting with my first drupal (5.7) module... I want to build a complex custom node type by code (I prefer than with CCK, not to be dependant of such a big module, and also to be sure than nobody can change the structure without change the code too, because I'll have many actions on differents fields and their relations). My problem is about management of multiple values, howto link a list of values to a node ? e.g. with several subjects linked to a node I try first the tables my node type: node_edures(nid,description) a bridge table: edures_fields_subjects(sid,nid) subjects table: edures_subjects(sid,subject) But then, in edures_load(&$node) I can't return an array in a property of my node that doesn't exists... So I tried this design (fssid means fieldset_subject_id): node_edures(nid,description,fssid) edures_fs_subjects(fssid,sid) edures_subjects(sid,subject) And my function edures_load become : $obj = db_fetch_object(db_query('SELECT * FROM {node_edures} WHERE nid = %d', $node->nid)); $subjects = db_query('SELECT subject FROM {edures_fs_subjects} fss LEFT JOIN {edures_subjects} s USING (sid) WHERE fssid = %d;', $obj->fssid); $obj->fssid = array('fssid'=>$obj->fssid, 'subjects'=>array()); $subject = array(); while ($subject = db_fetch_array($subjects)) { $obj->fssid['subjects'][] = $subject['subject']; } return $obj; But it's quite dirty to change initial int of $node->fssid by an array, don't you think so ? Folding old site into Drupal structure

We run our own server (Debian) with many virtual domains. For many of the newer sites using Drupal, we've followed the protocol of installing Drupal -- in /home/drupal/public_html -- with each site getting it's own directory in /home/drupal/public_html/sites/mysite.com. For all modules and themes we install in /home/drupal/public_html/sites/all/modules (or themes) and that works very well. Works very well as long as we point mysite.com to /home/drupal/public_html in Apache vhosts.conf. All this certainly takes a load-off from reinstalling updates in each domain. However we have a few domains that are quite old (mid-90's) and have extensive hierarchy of static files. We would like to upgrade those sites to Drupal over time. So here's the question... I could overlay Drupal in /home/old-site/public_html, then use Front Page to keep the old site look & feel and even use menus to point to older pages and use this setup while -- over time -- we would convert old material to Drupal pages. And vhosts.conf would stay as it is for that domain. But doing so would require doing twice the number of core/module/theme upgrades, a pain I'd rather avoid. Alternatively, could I install all the old site content files under /home/drupal/public_html/sites/mysite.com - and then change vhosts and get the benefit of single upgrades? Or (third option) could I use symbolic links under /sites/mysite.com that link to the old site files and directories? Are there other ways to approach this dilemma? Thanks for any thoughts on this. Perhaps I didn't articulate the question properly. But one can serve site files from /home/drupal/public_html/sites/mysite.com/ I've used http://mysite.com/sites/mysite.com/ for files under: /home/drupal/public_html/sites/mysite.com/ and the files are accessible. I have a files subdirectory for images and the like, but other subdirectories are also accessible. Now the files directory has a .htaccess file for security, but I never though about putting .htaccess under home/drupal/public_html/sites/mysite.com/ I suppose I could but don't have anything sensitive there. (thoughts on this are welcome). What I'm really looking for is to find the best way to fold an old existing site (many static files) into the Drupal multi-site heirarchy. Should I move the site over to /home/drupal/public_html/sites/mysite.com/ and put everything under the files directory? Or should I keep the existing old site at /home/mysite.com/public_html and fold Drupal in over the old site? That would create a separate Drupal installation which would require additional upgrades. My apologies if I'm not making this clear. I see that /node/ acts by default as the "front page" using the promote option. Can "promote" be set to send the items elsewhere, leaving /node/ available for me to use for my /news/ path?
