Primary Links and Menu

Yes, I am a newbie to Drupal and PHP, but I'm been a Java/J2EE developer for a number of years now, so I can code and read API's. I just took a Drupal Bootcamp course in Cambridge, MA, so at least I think my questions won't be completely out of whack. In many themes ... it seems the Primary links are across the top somehow, with or without drop down menus ... And it seems there is minimal Menu navigation on left-sidebar. I'd really like to have my primary links on my left-sidebar ... so do I have to put that in a block? Is there a theme that already does that, or something simpler? Is there any PHP or CSS I need to manipulate? Thanks! Tom

urgent help needed

how can I add an image to my ads using the ad module, i have the text ads ,images ads and embed enabled, but the url feild only accepts the http://www.something.com/click-0000000-00000000 part, so what about the img part ? my ad html come something like : <a href="http://www.something.com/click-0000000-00000000">Introducing iPod shuffle Remixed colors. Clip and Go. Wear up to 240 songs. </a> <img src="http://www.something/image-200000000-00000000" width="1" height="1" border="0"/> I AM NOT HOSTING the images localy or from within drupal please help pitchoilcan(a)gmail.com

Same node, multiple places

Hi folks. I'm trying to figure out the cleanest way to set this up. I have a site that is actually kinda sorta 2 sites. It doesn't make sense to make it a multi-site, really, but it needs to give the impression of multiple sites, visually. For the most part that's easy; just base the template file off of the path for the sub-site. (/ and /journal in my case). However, the client wants news items (news nodes) to appear on both "sites", with each one having its own visual appearance. That is, at /news/$nid it uses the main site template, while at /journal/news/$nid it uses the sub-site's template. Is there a good way to do that? So far my best guess is to use something like Panels 2 to create a panel at each location that has only one pane, which is the node specified by an argument. Of course, I haven't actually worked with Panels 2 yet, just seen Earl's demos, so I'm not sure if that's actually a reasonable plan. Is there some better way? (This site will be built on Drupal 6; it's just in planning stages now, so I want to figure out what I'll be doing in 3 months to build it. <g>) --Larry Garfield

Mass Categorisation of Images

Hi, Im working on a drupal project where I have large masses of images to be categorised... I was wondering if there was a way I could do this without having to upload them individually. I tried image import, but that does not give the option to categorise. The images are in the thousands so individual tagging is not quite feasible. I wanted to group the images (according to event) in albums and was wondering how to go about this. Thanks. Pherowze

How to link to "my account" in the main menu ?

Hi (newbie question ahead), I'm using Drupal 5. I tried to add an element to the main menu to link to "my account", so I made it link to "user". But when I do that, the element doesn't appear in the menu (whereas it works for all other pages). I have to put the full URL and then the element appears. I looks like the menu system filters some elements based on some mysterious criteria - for example the "admin" element is showed only for administrators (that's handy). But why isn't "user" showing properly ? Thanks, Xav

Best practices for >1 environment

Suppose I support my production environment by staging thing through a QA environment first. I now have 2 Drupal environments. At a crude level the changes take 2 forms: 1-files system changes and 2-DBMS changes. The DBMS changes can be further divided into A-changes done on my behalf by modules and B-Changes made by an administrator (/admin changes). How can I make changes to my QA environment in a controlled way, approve them and then migrate them to my production environment. I really want 100%, or close to it coverage. I don't want a solution that only manages the files. Thanks, -Bruce

Hello, I have a Drupal 4.7 website (I think it's 4.7) and some of my users are experiencing login problems. "Alice" will log in and end up inside "Bob"'s account. Alice can see Bob's account details, edit his blog, etc. Alice is 100% logged in as Bob. Alice and Bob are in the same building, probably behind a firewall. Does anyone know what could cause this problem? My first guess is that they are using a shared computer and Bob forgot to log out, but I'm not sure that this is true (btw, this is a school, Alice is a student and Bob a teacher, and Bob is not happy that his students can use his account). How does Drupal store login information? Does it use a cookie? Or does it use the IP address? I have every reason to believe that Alice and Bob would show up as the same IP, so I hope that's not what Drupal uses. If Drupal only uses cookies, then that means that Bob didn't log out, right? Or is there another possibility? Thanks for the help. Cheers, Daniel.
