How to do that. I haven't got any error.
Was having problem in creating DATABASE. But now manages to create the database.

I'm following the drupal .txt files only. "4.0 Run the install script." in this step it's written *To run the install script, point your browser to the base URL of your **website (e.g., http://www.example.com).*
But since I'm doing installation on my locahost laptop, i don't have any website. I thought by using some URL in locahost the installtion for default DRUPAL will start but not getting how to do that.

Thanks.

This also not working.

Where is Drupal installed?
You should place it either in the root directory of the web server, or in a sub-directory like /var/www/html/drupal-7.4.
Then it should be available at http://localhost/drupal-7.4. Or in your case http://127.0.0.1/drupal-7.4.
If it is working for the IP but not the hostname perhaps you could try flushing your browser cache.
In any case, you should preferably add an entry to the hosts file (like mydrupal, for example) and add a virtualhost entry in /etc/ apache2/sites-available/ and enable it.
Good luck.

Chetan,
I think you're right on one hand here - the instructions are setup mostly for users that have installed web applications before - and from your confusion i can tell you have not, would it be helpful to direct you to say a tool like Acquia http://network.acquia.com/downloads or say the Microsoft web platform http://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx first instead of you having downloaded the usual install?
I do have to add that though Drupal can be quite simple - it can also be complicated in other areas... what was your experience like with this?

Actually I want to make my personal website. I want to use Linux hosting.
That is why I want to first try local hosting on my fedora laptop. And then migrate to web hosting of my website. I don't want to set up using non Linux applications. Windows I don't want too. On 04-Jul-2011 12:39 AM, "Dan Horning" dan.horning@planetnoc.com wrote:

I suggest you try Ubuntu. The server-guide at https://help.ubuntu.com/10.10/serverguide/C/serverguide.pdf will help you with specifics about Apache, etc. It's very comprehensive, and easy to follow.
On fedora, your Apache configuration is in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf.
From the command line, do a:
dig localhost
And see if it comes back to 127.0.0.1. If not, then edit /etc/hosts and add:
127.0.0.1 localhost
Depending on your browser, you might have to clear the cache. Firefox is pretty bad at DNS caching. There is a plugin for Firefox where you can click and clear it.
You can also add VirtualHosts to your httpd.conf. There's examples at the bottom of httpd.conf showing you how. Generally on all Fedora/RHEL/CentOS servers, I usually host everything out of /srv/www, so I have a structure like this:
/srv/www/mysite.com/pubilc_html /srv/www/mystie.com/logs
That keeps everything nice and separated.
