Hello Themers, Here is a pickle, I have a view, and I am using the check box on the image_field: [x] Rewrite the output of this field And below it, I have wraped my output in some DIV tags that add drop shadows. Only, not all my Node's have an image, which is the way it should be [flexible]; only Drupal still renders the wrapping DIVs instead of seeing that there is no content, and not theming the field... consequently, I get drop shadows when it makes no sense. had a flash of insight and thought i'd put PHP in that rewrite field box, but it doesn't work... it outputs the PHP as HTML :( am I just out of luck? sebastian wrote:

am I just out of luck? views fields are templatable - in view edit mode click 'information' next to theme in the basic settings box. This will give you template suggestions- they can be field specific - that way you can put your php code/rewrite there
Thanks Lee, it does seem like this is the only way to do it... shame really as every tpl.php sucks up another HTML request, and really I would want ALL fields that have no content to not output the wrapping HTML tags... IMHO this should be a "standard function" of how a field works... :/ I've also made this a subject on Views->Issues, we'll see if it goes any further. Otherwise, I'll just covet the problem. I'm a little late on this thread, and maybe I'm overlooking something but is there a reason you can't add the CSS drop shadows to the img element itself? What I mean is that your default field output should provide a div identifier for the field, or failing that, one for the view. Within that cascade of unique and generic named elements you should be able to find the right selector to do something like ".view-field-image img" in your CSS, and have it only affect the images in the context of your view. Furthermore, since the CSS value is attached to the image tag itself, the lack of an image will mean that the rule will simply not be called - unlike your case of empty custom divs. ~~nat
Hi Nat, Your suggestion would work, except that I am not just affecting the img tag, but rather putting two divs before and after it, so that i have drop shadows that do a "curl" on the left and on the right of the image [so that it looks as if it is "pinched" from the page]. There is no way this can be done with just targeting the img tag in CSS, one needs to use two other div tags to get this to work. But thanks for the suggestion!
