[drupal-support] Charset problem

I'm using mysql 3.23 and Drupal 4.5 on an Apache/Linux server, PHP version 4.10. My older version of MySQL stores all text as latin1, the equivalent of iso-8859-1 extended. But I notice that Drupal outputs pages using the utf-8 character set. This is causing problems with the extended iso-8859-1 characters (Micorsoft's curly quotes, etc.) and they usually show up as question marks in the text. To solve the problem, I changed the charset argument in the drupal_set_header() function to iso-8859-1. This took care of the problem. But now, of course, any UTF-8 encoded text shows funky characters. What's the best way to get Drupal to output both UTF-8 and iso-8859-1 extended characters properly?

No thats not it, the database is set correctly in includes/conf.php. ----------- # $db_url = "mysql://user:password@hostname/database"; # $db_url = "pgsql://user:password@hostname/database"; $db_url = "mysql://mydbuser:mypassword@myhost/mydatabasename"; ---------- Thats why I dont get why its calling the pg_connect. Anyone else know why? [drupal-support] Home always show the setting up site page

I have installed drupal, created some users, but whenever I go to the home page I get the 'Welcome to your new Drupal-powered website. This me ...' text. How can I say to drupal that I have already set up and admin account and to show me the real homepage ? Regards maykel

I've just had a server restored and now my drupal database is giving this error when I try to access the site: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: pg_connect() in /home/stonetil/public_html/includes/database.pgsql.inc on line 28 I see that this is a PostgreSQL database connection routine, but I don't have postgresql installed. Ive always used MySQL. Why is drupal calling this routine, and how can I make it go back to using MySQL? The include database.inc seems to indicate that Drupal is looking to set an active database, why? Can I override it? thanks emdee

[drupal-support] Automatic updates check and upgrades

Hi all, I use drupal for a long time and performed several upgrades. I just think would it be better to automate update using some "check for update" button. Is it too lame? Also each time I need to rewrite conf.php file after untarring archive which is not handy. Since this info doesn't change during upgrades I propose to rename conf.php to config.php and store there persistent information which will not be rewritten by installing a new source. I took a look at http://www.searchengineworld.com/cgi-bin/sim_spider.cgi the other day and noticed that when spider-checking any drupal-based site that has enabled clean url functionality the spider doesn't fill in the domain name. [drupal-support] Deleting orphan book pages

Is there a clean way to delete a book (including all child pages)? When you're deleteing orphan pages (at administer > content > books > orphan pages), is it supposed to keep going back to the content screen? It'd be nice to be able to delete multiple orphan pages at once, but perhaps I deserve this problem if there is a way to cleanly delete a book. ^.^;; Anisa.
