Kind of problem - long nodes

It's seemed to be a problem in Drupal core 4.7.2. Long and frequently updatble nodes are cutted (include inside DB) up to some countble value. According MySql reference, the maximum allowed length of LONGTEXT columns depends on the configured maximum packet size in the client/server protocol and available memory. So it might be a chance that nodes will be cutted and content will be lost. -- Tamir

This is how we can get better help files

Hi, Now that we have directories for each modules, we can have help files separated out. This way, the documentation folks do not need to create patches and so on. This is the issue: http://drupal.org/node/73809 and I mailed devel because I think it deserves special attention. Also, when we agree on that this is the right path to take, we will need to move quite some strings out of module files -- I accept helping hands. Regards NK

Hi, <rant> It seemed like a support question to me. Now I don't want to be finnicky or something, but exactly *when* is a question for support appropriate for the development list? If you allow certain people to post support questions to the development list, you should allow everybody to do so. Why not stick to the appropriate channels? The fact that Leo (or me, or you) is distinguished doesn't mean we shouldn't follow the appropriate channels. </rant> It's not easy to know everyone on this list by heart, and your node reference is indeed showing Leo off as an expert developer, but this question he asked didn't convince me as such. translation for the installer?

Hi, I looked through the installer code. It obvisouly does not even try to t() strings, since a database is not yet in place. My quite is how to tackle the issue of translating the installer to different languages. - do not care about this, the installer is just a short process, only database setup, and then the profile can easily handle importing the translation and then on use that translation for install wizards - load in the PO import code (locale.inc) and import a PO file for the installer if available into memory. the installer PO file should be small, so this should not be a resource problem. - come up with some custom process of providing translations for the installer, like a simple key->value pair text file. Since PO parsing is already done, translators are already familiar with PO editing and translation, the second option might be doable. We just need a simplified t() implementation for the installer, which works from the associative array loaded in by the PO import code. It would be nice to provide a localized installer from the very start, and with the solutions proposed it would only need another file (installer.po) copied into the profiles folder before running the installer. (This is a development issue, not a translation one, this is why I brought it up here). Gabor

fixing nodeapi : programmatically submitting forms.

Hey everyone. I don't have a lot of time for core development right now (I will likely only have time again in august, by the looks of things), but we have a problem in core at the moment. I am talking of course of the fact that FAPI only partially replaced node api, leaving neither of them the right solution for programmatically creating nodes and the like. The solution I have in mind for this , is the following : 1 ) introduce a hook_forms. which registers each of the forms on the site. 2 ) register all the forms, and their inputs and create callbacks for them 3 ) put the form creation code into it's own function, with the registered callback 4) alter fapi to not use _POST at all. Instead use a parameter that is passed to it, which merely defaults to _POST. Instead of PUSHING the form array through the form generation process, we now have the ability to PULL the form array and process it. Optional context for translations?

The problem with the locale module is that translations are site-wide. In 4.7, we have hook_form_alter so we can mess with forms all we want. So any translating on a forms page can easily be done in the context of just that form. But what about non-form pages? Having the ability to add an optional context to the translation would be nice. Hmmm...what about something like block visibility for a translation? Then we could translate a string just for blog, blog/* or some PHP vis code. I'm not very keen on translation functionality, so is this feasible? DrupalCON Europe

Hello world, as you might know, we're busy organizing DrupalCON Europe in Brussels (http://groups.drupal.org/drupalcon-brussels-2006) It will take place after OSCON Europe, O'Reilly's Open Source conference (http:// conferences.oreillynet.com/euos2006/) Please find attached a tentative schedule. We're going to organize a one-day GovCamp, a BarCamp-style conference about technology in governments. GovCamp is organized by Bart Van Herreweghe, who works for the Belgian prime minister. Brussels is the heart of the European Union and so there is always lots of government stuff happening here. This might be interesting for many of the CivicSpace users who use Drupal for political campaigns or for those who use Drupal within government institutions. If all goes well, we'll have two dedicated Drupal days on Friday and Saturday. Sunday might be a third DrupalCON day depending on the availability of the venue. If anything, there will be a BarCamp on Sunday organized by Peter Forret. BarCamp itself will like take place elsewhere in Brussels, so if we can't get hold of a venue for Sunday, we can always hang out at BarCamp. Johan Janssens, Joomla's lead developer, said he would be at BarCamp so chances are there will be a dedicated CMS track. A BarCamp could be really fun! :-) Note that we are still waiting for confirmation from the venue(s) and bear in mind that we might have to shuffle things around! Mixel Kiemen (http://drupal.org/user/46625 - info(a)mixel.be) is taking a lead in securing the DrupalCON venue. I'll be away from the keyboard the next couple days so make sure to CC Mixel if something comes up. We won't publicly promote OSCON/GovCamp/DrupalCON/BarCamp until the DrupalCON venues are confirmed but I figured a status update to the development mailing list was in order. Please don't book plane tickets yet. Hopefully, we get confirmation soon. More information is available at http://groups.drupal.org/drupalcon- brussels-2006. That said, your question does require quite a bit of custom coding, so I am not sure if someone will consider doing that for you, but I suspect you might need to hire someone to do the coding for you.
