theme switching based on device & page cache

Hi, I am creating Desktop & Mobile site using Drupal 7. I have same domain + URL for desktop & mobile site. I am using Browscap for device deteciton and based on device i am switching theme using hook_custom_theme. This creates problem if i enable page cache. Note from Readme.txt file of mobile tools module says CACHING ======= Device detection and redirection works fine when caching is enabled. However if you choose to do theme switching based on device, caching will bypass the theme switching and get your pages out of cache: e.g.: First user visits the site with his iphone and gets the iphone theme. The theme get's stored in cache, but the second user with a simple feature phone will also get the iphone theme. Solution: Open the mobile_tools_cache.inc file and read the documentation! Documentation from mobile_tools_cache.inc file says /** * @file mobile_tools_cache.inc * This files allow to override the default drupal cache in order to support theme switching based * on device type and device group. * * In order to enable this file, add the following to your settings.php file * $conf['page_cache_fastpath'] = FALSE, * $conf['cache_inc'] = './sites/all/modules/mobile_tools/mobile_tools_cache.inc', * ); * */ This doesn't work. Even the syntax is incorrect. Its like $conf['page_cache_fastpath'] = FALSE, $conf['cache_inc'] = './sites/all/modules/mobile_tools/mobile_tools_cache.inc', ); Really appreciate any kind of help. SOLR - multiple indexes on single site?

I'm new to Solr and have a site where I would like to use Solr to power keyword search and product search, both on the same site. I've googled around quite a bit and all I've found is how to power multiple sites with Solr, not power multiple sections on the site. I don't know if using 2 separate indexes is possible (or necessary), but I would like: - different URL paths for search result (one keyword results, the other product search results) - results in product search to only query against product content types, the keyword for any content type - I envision facets to only be needed in product results, but there is potential to use in general keyword results (though results content grouping is much more important to me!) Hey Nancy, not totally sure. It's a VPS server using XEN technology. If anyone can point me on how to find out how much Virtual cores there are, that would be great. But overall, multithreading should help weather it's one processor or more as threads are lightweight compared to processes. One issue that arose was an internal server error that occurred very very rarely. It seems to be because PHP CGI processes terminate after getting a specific number of requests (500 by default). So apache would abruptly find the prcoess it was talking to terminated and would send a 500 error to the client. That's resolved by either telling PHP never to terminate (and risking memory leaks, which is low I presume?) or by setting the max requests per thread in apache to something less than 500 (I set it to 490). I'll write a post on D.O once I'm done with more testing. Here's what I'm working on now: 1. APC doesn't work with this configuration (I don't use it anyway). Seems this is resolved by installing php-fpm. I'll try to set it up in the coming few days. 2. With this configuration, and using suexec I can run each virtualhost using a different user. Now that's the ultimate security. If a site is breached, even with PHP filter and exec function, they can't do damage to any other site! 3. You get some added perks of giving each virtualhost its own PHP.INI file, etc As to going nginx+php-fpm. I don't know if I'm eager to ditch apache. Seems like a MAJOR thing. I am, however, going to try to setup php-fpm with apache. I will look into nginx later on of course and try to accumulate some know-how to see if it's worth-while. I assume you have a computer with multiple cores? Internet Out

Experience with mod_fcgid

Hello All, I thought I'd share this experience with everyone. I've transitioned from mod_php to mod_fcgid in the last couple of days and I can say I'm stunned at the results. My memory consumption has dropped down 50% and my Drupal installations' response time has almost tripled. I'll keep tuning the settings and get back with results, I could also share some munin before/after shots and current mpm_worker settings and my previous mpm_prefork settings (yes, no need for mpm_prefork now!) So far I've seen no downside to the transition, would love to hear opinions, experience and feedback especially by people who've went that route and who have more experience with it than I have. The module the provides the library integration should provide a hook_requirements() that makes the necessary assertions. If you have a module like awssdk then you can simply depend on that module in your info file to imply a dependency on the AWS SDK for PHP from Amazon. Obvioulsy you can do this all in one module otherwise. -- Jimmy

Should google-api-php-client be a library?

Hi folks, I'm creating a new Drupal module for the connection to Google Calendar using Google API. I know the main aim of Drupal libraries is for CSS and JS instead of google-api-php-client is mainly a PHP library. Do you suggest to me to put google-api-php-client files in sites/all/libraries anyway or to ship google-api-php-client in my module? Thanks, Fair

Is it not possible to have fields associated to entities that do not have bundles?

Hi Guys, Entities seem to be the biggest problem of my life for the past few weeks :-) Ok, so I have an entity without any bundles. I read this in hook_entity_info<http://api.drupal.org/api/drupal/modules--system--system.api.php/function/h…>that bundles are not necessary. This entry can be omitted if this entity type exposes a single bundle (all > entities have the same collection of fields). The name of this single > bundle will be the same as the entity type. Now, I need to attach fields to my entity. I use field_create_field<http://api.drupal.org/api/drupal/modules--field--field.crud.inc/function/fi…>for my entity reference field which seems to work fine. Be sure to take a look at the libraries 2.x branch it has a lot of features that are really necessary to do anything useful (especially for php libraries). That way people (and you) can simply do libraries_load('google') or the like and are all set. I personally dislike committing other people's code to my own repository for a number of reason even if the licensing is fine. It makes it all to easy to modify without submitting to upstream, you have to make commits to update which are unrelated to your project, and you can get by with a simple drush make file. -- Jimmy

I maintain the AWS SDK for PHP (http://drupal.org/project/awssdk) integration for Drupal which is a PHP library. Other modules then can depend on the integration module which will provide the library (drush make, configuration integration, and settings ui) for use within Drupal. One such module for awssdk is http://drupal.org/project/AmazonS3. -- Jimmy
