CCK lookup and drop-down list

I am comfortable with PHP and MySQL, but I'm new to Drupal, though I've just finished all chapters from Pro Drupal Development (VandDyk and Westgate). I need to create a form which populates a drop-down list from a column in a table, like Apples, Bananas, Pears. Should I create a .module, or am I overlooking a CCK extension module and/or Views approach? Thanks!

Locking menu items?

Hello, I am developing a drop-down menu system for a site using Drupal and jQuery. There are several "top level" links in the Drupal menu that I am using that I want to "lock" so that users that edit the menu can not delete, disable, or edit them, but can still add child links to them. Is there a way to do this?

So today I'm humming a long and create a new RC for imagefield 2.3.. I go back to the project page, and wow the RC is the recommended and supported version listed there... Totally not cool! How many people are going to that when they should be using the 2.2 release, thanks to update_status.module. I think it is really bad to automatically change these flags on maintainers. I think it should be left to the maintainer to decide when a release is recommended or supported. .darrel.

Where are release problems properly routed to?

Newly created releases aren't showing up for one of my projects. I sent a message to the CVS contact form, but maybe this wasn't the right place. Should these be sent to the CVS contact form? The infrastructure forum? The project project issue queue? Derek's cell phone? (just kidding) Someplace else? Sorry for the ignorance.... Dave

Modify Views CSV Export

Hello, I need to modify this function to allow it to export imagefield as a full path, not full <img src=> tag. DB best pratices, improving portability, MySQL ANSI mode

I just came across this: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/faqs-sql-modes.html http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/server-sql-mode.html setting mode to ANSI should help to debug the code and improve portability to other DB even if I've heard that the ANSI mode is not as strict as you'd expect. drop tasks for Drupal students

Later this week I'm holding a Drupal introductory class at the university of Szeged, Hungary. I would like to show the students how easy it is to become part of the Drupal community. That's why I thought that besides the not-for-profit Drupal project they have to do for the course, I would ask students to get at least 5 DROP points as a condition for succeeding with the course. Do you think this is a good idea? If I do this I will need lots of DROP tasks cause I'll have something between 30 and 50 students. So if you have any bitesize tasks a newbie can handle, please add them at http://drop.cwgordon.com

Automatic event promotion . . .

I have a need for a particular functionality, and before I go and create a module to do it, I thought I'd check to see if anyone else is already doing it. What I want is to have all my event node (or maybe some subset) automatically promoted to the front page for some specified period of time before the event takes place and then to automatically be unpromoted after the event is over. I didn't see any module that provided that functionality on d.o. Is this code that I just put within <SCRIPT> tags in the header (probably making sure it is under the jquery import), either manually or by a module?
