Including the CCK in core is an important goal and something I support strongly. So I played some more with the CCK today, and before it can be considered for inclusion, we need to: 1. Figure out a way to make it easy to install the CCK. Having to enable 5-10 modules is annoying. Having a better install system, with a build in dependency tracker, seems necessary. 2. Creating a new content type is a multi-step process. Improving and extending the Forms API to make it easier to build wizards would be of tremendous help to get the CCK in core (but not strictly necessary). Improving the user experience when creating node types, however, is necessary to get CCK in core. 3. Figure out a way to migrate existing node types to the CCK. Summary: it is too early to consider including the CCK in core. Announcing the "Issue tracking and software releases" group

Apologies if it's considered bad form to post messages like this... Open invitation to anyone who cares about drupal's handling of issue tracking and software releases: http://groups.drupal.org/issue-tracking-and-software-releases I'm going to be doing a lot of development in this area, and wanted to create a space to discuss designs, implementation details, integration with various modules, etc. plus, (in case you haven't noticed) i'm desperate for people to help review my patches for the project module. ;) so i'm hoping to find folks willing to keep track of what i'm doing so i can commit and move forward. everything takes longer if you have to manage a ton of "open" patches, some of which depend on fixes from others... again, sorry if it's a no-no to announce new groups.drupal.org groups like this. consider this a reminder to check out all the other groups that are already up and having useful, interesting discussions. ;) thanks, -derek

I don't know of many software programs or utilities that has more than one engine. I can't talk about Linux, as I know next to nothing thereabout, but Windows, for example, has one 'theme engine' if you can call it that, and you can just add different themes? Hi, I'm going to migrate my blog from 4.6 to the newly released 4.7 and I'm thinking of documenting all the stuff I'll be doing to turn it into a tutorial on blogging with Drupal a little more advanced than the one in the handbook. I'd like to touch topics such as Last.fm integration, social bookmarks (from Simpy via my module), tags, tagcloud, blogroll etc. My question is whether you guys feel there's a need for such a tutorial and also what do you think it would be good to add in it. 4.7 maintenance: old issues

Hi there! As part of 4.7 maintenance I think it would be worthwhile to look through all the not closed pre 4.7 issues. There are issues that were opened against the various betas ans release candidates. The link is: http://drupal.org/project/issues?projects=3060&versions=10634%2C10412%2C103… Since there are a whopping 14 pages, I'd like everybody to help and look at a couple of them. You cannot leave them assigned to the RCs or betas (option removed), but you will have to decide whether they still apply first. If they don't apply anymore: Assign to 4.7 and mark fixed, won't fix, closed, etc. If they still apply and are bugs, also assign to 4.7. If they are features and still apply, assign to cvs. Thanks, Gerhard
