Hi folks, Wondering who has had good experiences with AJAX/JSON frameworks working with PHP/Drupal? I realize that "frameworks" covers a multitude of sins - but if you've worked with something you like along these lines and it is Free and plays well with Drupal I'd love to hear about it. Dan

Human readable taxonomy URLs

Essentially you have to generate your URLs like this: * <a href="http://apple.com/ipod" rel="tag"></a> * <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity" rel="tag"></a> * <a href="http://flickr.com/photos/tags/chihuahua" rel="tag"></a> If rel="tag" is specified, tools like technorati will use the last word of the URL as being the tag (see http://www.technorati.com/help/ tags.html). The tags would be respectively: * ipod * gravity * chihuahua Drupal, however, generates: * <a href="/taxonomy/term/15" rel="tag" title=""> * <a href="/taxonomy/term/16" rel="tag" title=""> so microformat aware crawlers pick it up as being: * 15 * 16 When you use freetagging, like I do on my blog, having to map 'taxonomy/term/15' on something crawler friendly like 'tag/drupal' is kinda tiresome -- especially when you have many tags. The current user interface doesn't lend itself to this. Suggestions on how we can make this easier, and how we can make it so that Drupal generates URLs can automatically take advantage of the latest developments in microformats (like Technorati and shortly, Microsoft)? Maybe there should be a checkbox in the taxonomy.module to enable/ disable the auto-generation of clean URLs? Is CCK required for 4.7, does location.module need a 4.7 branch, or am I just not getting something?

Good Evening/Morning. I've encountered a challenge on a 4.7 based Drupal site that I'm building. When I save my modules configuration, I am presented with one or more of the following error: Table 'drupal.node_type' doesn't exist query: SELECT type_name FROM node_type nt ORDER BY nt.type_name ASC in /home/mclewin/public_html/folkjam/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 120. I tracked the query down to location_views.module, in the location_views_default_views() function. The following code is looking for a table that I believe was (will be?) introduced with CCK support: // cck content types all identify themselves as module 'content' // need to find type name, then check to see if that type has been location-enabled $cck_types = db_query('SELECT type_name FROM {node_type} nt ORDER BY nt.type_name ASC'); while ($type = db_fetch_object($cck_types)) { This is using the latest location module code from CVS head. There is no DRUPAL-4-7 tagged version of location.module. Based on this thread (http://drupal.org/node/62340, "Pave the way for CCK") and content.install (http://cvs.drupal.org/viewcvs/drupal/contributions/modules/cck/content.inst…) I am pretty sure the node_type table is introduced along with CCK. I do not have CCK installed as part of my 4.7 based site. I figure I could install it and make my problem go away, but before I do, I wanted to ask this more basic question: Is CCK a requirement for a 4.7 based site? Based on what I've been reading in this forum for the last six months, I don't think so. Before I post an issue against location.module asking for a 4.7 compatible branch, I wanted to come to the experts to see whether the intent is to require the use of CCK in 4.7. What's broken, my site (for not having CCK installed), location.module (for not having a 4.7 branch where CCK is not called), or me (for not seeing what I'm sure will be obvious after one of you gently places it in front of me)? I recently created (and contributed) the taxonomy_breadcrumb module (http://drupal.org/node/61944) that generates taxonomy based breadcrumbs for all node pages and allows admins to replace the normal taxonomy/term pages with regular nodes. The module adds a form element to the term and vocab add/edit pages where a user can enter a path. This path is not an alias, but a path each generated breadcrumb will link to instead of taxonomy/term/X. I realize the functionality in this module isn't what you described (you want an alias, not a redirect* to a node), it sounds like the type of interface you're looking for. It wouldn't be difficult add something to this module, or simply rip out what's useful to create a new module. * the term redirect is not being used in the HTTP protocol sense. Craig

Microsoft SQL Server

I'm interested in resuming support for MS SQL Server. I'm happy to put the effort in and get it working but I'm unsure of how this should be tackled within the Drupal community and whether anyone else has been doing that? If somebody could let me know where to look concerning adding bits to the core system / who to talk to that would be great. Thanks Nick

Wow I popped out for a couple of hours and you guy's have sent a stagering number of responses. I've had a look at the code and have looked at the database.inc which should be OK to recode. I've worked heavily with MS SQL and Postgres in the past and have had to do a bit of module recoding in Drupal before to get postgres to work from the mysql stuff that's supplied. On the Oracle fron I've also had a play with that (as it's free to download for developers!) so maybe we should plan to try and pick both up at the same time. I'm happy to collaborate and join your group. subdomain rewriting

Okay, slightly off topic and maybe even support, but still IMO very usefull for others, if possible: I have pathauto rewrite term/tag paths in the form of example.com/places/Amsterdam And I would love that to be available on amsterdam.example.com I dot mind using rewrite rules, but prefer not to use redirects. I also developed a small module that uses hook_term_path (Dries: hint!) [1] to rewrite any rendered "places" links as subdomain links, so that is all taken care of. The only part that remains is the hard part, if possible at all: using apache rewrites to rewrite amsterdam.example.com -> example.com/places/amsterdam Any apache and/or rewrite gurus around who did this, or know if this is possible at all? syslog /snmp

Hi I would be interested to know if anybody ever did try to implement writing messages from drupal to a syslog server / service or enable them with a MIB for SNMP. reason: Potential customer would for example like to know when a site is going throttled or certain error messages from the database occur and has a central monitoring environment in place for syslog /snmp with treshhold on them. -- Kind regards, Bert Boerland

Paging module & Clean URL's

Hi All, I am wanting to use the story module to publish articles, but I also am looking for the ability to paginate these articles. I was loking at the paging module, but the resulting URL structure is rather messy, and as clean URL's are one of the major Drupal drawcards for myself I'd really much rather not have this. I raised a feature request but was told there was nothing that could be done while using the in-built Drupal pager. Details can be seen here; http://drupal.org/node/59362 Assuming this is correct then I would be interested at looking into sponsoring a custom paging module to fill my requirements. I was wondering if I could ask the dev community about the best ways to approach this. changes in project publishing workflow

after running into numerous problems with how we used to handle project workflow, i've changed some code in project.module and cvs.module, and killes has reconfigured drupal.org. i've updated the handbook page about maintaining projects to reflect these (and other) changes: http://drupal.org/node/7765 the new workflow: 1) only users with a valid cvs account are allowed to create project nodes at all. this removes a potentially confusing node type from the create content page for the vast majority of drupal.org users. 2) projects are no longer put into the moderation queue. so long as the user has a cvs account (and belong to a role that has the "maintain projects" permission), they can create any projects they like, which are immediately published. further edits of the project page no longer send the node back into moderation. 3) users with a cvs account can create new directories in the contributions repository, but can only tag directories that have a valid project node associated with them. once tagged, the usual tarball generation stuff kicks in and does its thing. i think this new method will remove a lot of project-related headaches and confusion. let me know if anyone has any questions or suggestions for further improvements. thanks! -derek (dww)
