associate dates to nodes

Good moorning, i´m newbie developing on drupal, so please beard with me. I need to know if this is possible to do and where should i read more documentation... the question is that i need to associate different dates to each node created. The working should be similar to a reservation system in a hotel. The administrator must be able to insert new houses or bedrooms and the annonymous users must be able to associate dates in nodes, having in mind that the same node cannot have the same date associated... Do i need to develop a module or is it possible to make it easier in any other way? Thanks in advance for your suggestions, best regards.

The Date module won't do this out of the box, but if you know enough about Drupal and PHP to write a custom module I don't think it would be hard to customize it rather than rewrite everything from scratch. You would only need to add a '#validate' item to the form via hook_form_alter(), and have it point to whatever validation function you want to run your dates through. That way your customization is only for the validation process and you can use all the built-in data storage, Views integration, and other goodness of CCK pretty much as-is. If you write a custom module you have to create tables, create forms, create validation routines, create Views integration (if you want an easy way to display all this), etc. etc. Lots more work that way, and you'd have to redo much of it each time you find new info you want to track or whenever the Drupal APIs change. I don't think anyone has any benchmarks about how far you can scale something like this, but I know we have some very large sites using CCK extensively or exclusively for things like this. Temp file conflicts

Has anyone worked on a way to prevent two Drupal sites on a single server from using the same temporary directory? Conflicts when multiple sites add the same files to /tmp affect Chat Room and XML Site Map.

help needed to polish the new menu system

Dear Developers, While Karoly took the lead and I have contributed (along with webernet, Shakur, and others), we still need help to polish things. I'm trying to maintain an accurate list of issues here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/4850 Some are pretty easy, while others are more suited for those who want to learn in more detail (and help perfect) the D6 menu system. For most or all of these there is an existing patch (that needs work) or we have imagined already the outline of the change and can explain what's needed. Maintainer needed for Flexiconvert (Flexinode to CCK converter)

Hi Gang, There are still a fair number of poor souls trapped in the world of Flexinode and therefore stuck at Drupal 4.7. I wrote flexiconvert after I made the transition, but it is the nature of the beast that no really needs this module more than once. In the meantime, it has collected a fair number of patches as people work through their own particular edge cases. Which I have been neglecting. Any chance that someone (maybe someone connected with CCK or Flexinode) would be up for taking over maintainership, and help lead these people into the promised land of Drupal 5 and 6? thanks, -tao

Code freeze reminder

Hello world, this is just a friendly note to let you know that it is less than 2 weeks until the code freeze (for real). I'm currently traveling, but I'll compile a detailed list of what I believe are important patches somewhere next week. In the mean time, the list mentioned in the last status update on drupal.org will do. At the top of my head are (no internet connection): 1. Various patches that improve performance and/or scalability. I'm specifically interested in (i) splitting SQL reads and writes and (ii) merging the node and node_comment_statistics tables. There are pending issues for both, spear-headed by David. There are other performance related patches too. 2. Various menu module fixes -- it's time to get these taken care of and to unleash teh chx and polowadin. ;) 3. Actions module patch that John is working on. I spent quite a bit of time reviewing this patch, as did Gabor and it is nearing completion. There is a couple of things we need to figure out still, but overall, it looks well on its way to get committed this week. 4. The module notification module that Derek and Earl are working on. 5. The node render patch that Eaton started work on a while ago. I don't think that is been committed yet, but Eaton recently reminded me about how important this is to further unify and clean-up the CCK and core. RTBC - how does it work?

I searched the docs and couldn't find the protocol for this. How does a patch get to be RTBC? Is this a peer review thing or is it limited to a handful of people. The only thread I found was this one, which is clearly a work-in-progress, and one that we've moved past: http://lists.drupal.org/pipermail/development/2005-August/007431.html. I am disappointed that my search enhancements and password security hashing patches feel through. I'm wondering if I just don't understand the rules. One more thought on this subject, why not add 'minimum php version' to the .info file, and show modules that require php5 as disabled on the modules list if php5 isn't available. This would be a fairly simple thing that could still be slipped into 6.x that would allow us to start creating contrib modules that require php5 and get users thinking about the advantages of php5 so they start putting pressure on hosts to upgrade. Native timezone support didn't start working until 5.2, for instance, so the version check should test both major and minor version numbers. And add php version info to the module download page, too.
