Drupal 6 beta 1 planned for next Monday

Hello World! After some short discussion with Dries, I'd like to let you know, that I plan to release a beta 1 on next Monday (that is 3rd, September), or very close to that. This should help us either get a second beta or an RC by the time for DrupalCon, but this definitely depends on *you*. In the past weeks, the RTBC queue was 4-8 patches long, and there were important patches committed, like the update.php fixups. If you are interested in having a Drupal 6 release sooner then later, then please help concentrate on fixing bugs, review existing patches, move the ones which are ready to the RTBC state. If you think that there are definitely important issues, which might not be possible to fix after the beta is released (ie. because they involve at least small bits of database or API modifications), then please let me know the issue links. If you'd like to drum up interest/reviewers for the issues, then post them here in public, otherwise send them my way. If anyone sees show stoppers, don't hesitate to tell. It would also be helpful, if someone would be able to collect a list of new features and cool modifications for a beta release post on the frontpage. The changelog is a good start/reference. We should make more people excited about this beta (because it is awesome :), so we get more feedback, and a more stable release at the end. No patching knowledge required, to write this up :) Thanks to everyone involved with stabilizing this release, your work is highly appreciated! Gabor

db_query and serialized arrays

Hi all - I have an sql query that needs to insert a serialized array as one of the columns. However, the serialized data never makes it properly into the DB, I think because db_query strips out the curly braces. Take the following serialized associative array: 'a:2:{s:10:"Cardiology";s:10:"Cardiology";s:11:"Dermatology";s:11:"Dermatology";}' This ends up being stored as 'a:2:s:10:"Cardiology";s:10:"Cardiology";s:11:Dermatology";s:11:Dermatology";' (no curly braces), and I am therefore unable to unserialize() it. What is the way around this, other than fudging it and taking my result as a string and manually pushing the curly braces into place before attempting to unserialize? Thanks, William

Hi, Further to the flowchart of FAPI in Drupal 5/6 that Karen and I worked on at <http://drupal.org/node/165104> , I've put up a flowchart of the general index.php workflow at: http://drupal.org/node/172562 I think index.php is the same in D5 and current CVS head. Please let me know if you've any comments, or you think it might be useful. I hope it's of some use to newbies regardless, but for me it's already been helpful in diagnosing a possible source of white screens of death (see my comments in the issue node). The future of OO and Drupal?

My apologies if this has already been covered at length elsewhere, but given that PHP 5 will be the minimum required version for Drupal - what effect will that have on Drupal's code base from this point forward? Are current 'leading' discussions indicating that over time large parts of Drupal will be written/re-written in a totally OO way? I ask because I'm wondering if a fully OO contrib module for Drupal 6 would be considered as having been 'correctly' done in a 'Drupal-way', or not. (all other things being correct/equal, of course)

Drupal Numbers

Hi Folks, Someone can give me some drupal numbers? Or where I can find it? I'm very interested about how many contrib modules we have, how many page views does d.o have, how many cvs commits, and these kind of things.. As some of you know I will present Drupal at UNICAMP on Tuesday, and I'm needing this to finish the presentation. I already asked drupal-assoc and dries, but they should be busy, as they didn't replied me. So, with any of you could help me, I would be very veeery thankful.. Thanks, Fabiano Sant'Ana

I thought it would be easier to read if the individual changes where put into a list, so I broke them out into a dl. I also took a stab at explaining the new theme system, but someone should make sure I explained it correctly.
