feeds for docs? and "developers" group?

Reading the "When it's Ready" thread I've just learned 2 important things: - there is an automatic tool to help porting modules (deadwood) - now there are good docs about SimpleTest Sometimes I look into discussions or docs or "groups" to see how to best deal with cvs when you use another tool internally, how to setup multisite, if there is anything new about DB API I could exploit etc... Sometimes the docs get stale, outdated or it just don't solve my problem. a) it would be nice if dev could be kept updated on changes to specific sections of docs. b) is there a place to discuss about how to become better drupal developers? techniques, tools etc... Every time I learn something from a ml that could be useful to others or I may "forget" I've the habit to take notes on my (oh!) drupal website. If there was a place where to discuss how to become better drupal developers (and maybe there is such a place) I think the documentation would be even larger and maybe some recurring topics would be less frequent. The dev list most frequent use seems to be: - core announcements and strategies - how do I program this? but not: how do I become a better drupal dev? -- Ivan Sergio Borgonovo http://www.webthatworks.it

a (probably) simple question w.r.t. drupal_execute

Hi, i am pretty new at developing stuff in Drupal. So this question is probably an easy one to answer, but i am still new enough that i don't even really know where to look to start the debugging process. And i am hoping this is the correct list to post to. Anyway, here's the question: I am simply trying to programmatically create an attribute for ubercart (ver2). As far as i can tell drupal_execute seems the easiest (and intended?) way to do this. So i create my $form_state array etc... Then $form_id = 'uc_attribute_form'; When i put that into the module and the menu callback is executed i get: ... warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, 'uc_attribute_form' was given in /home/content/x/p/d/xpdtek/html/drupal-6.10/includes/form.inc on line 366. ... So apparently i am not quite getting something here. My first guess is that the form_id is wrong. But uc_attributes is enabled and from what i can tell the form that lets me manually create an attribute is called uc_attribute_form (located in uc_attribute/uc_attribute.admin.inc). Can anyone shed some light on this for me ... thanks matt

Need help to build module to create content and user at the same time

Hello all, I'm a bit new to this whole development thing, so please forgive me if I screw this up :) What I'd like to do is create a module that would allow the creation of content and a user at the same time. Basically, the reason for this module is for an operator to take a classified ad listing over the phone. The operator would then enter the User's email address. The System would look up the email and if the email exists, then the authorship would be assigned to the User with that email address. If there is not already a user with that email address, the User will be created, and the login instructions will be emailed to him. I hope that is clear. I created a support request that has a bit more detail here: http://drupal.org/node/391188 I was really hoping that something like this already existed, but I have not found anything that does this yet. If there is something already available, please let me know. Otherwise, would anyone be interested in partnering with me to form this module. I have 0 Drupal module coding experience; I am a usability guy by training. So if I can contribute in that way.... Thank you very much. Please let me know if you are interested in helping. James

Update.php re-design

There seems to be a couple of projects that are trying to make update.php command line friendly, non of which seem to be going that well: http://drupal.org/node/194107 http://acquia.com/blog/drupal-cli-utils The issue that I see is that update.php is tightly coupled with the UI. What I would like to do is pull the functions that preform the updates out of update.php so that it would be possible to have a different UIs to modules (Web interface, cli). There are two main reasons I would like to do this: 1. It would make the projects mentioned above much easier to implement. 2. The projects mentioned above have there own implementation of update.php that is independent of that way drupal updates the modules. I hope to endup with something along the lines of update.inc that holds the function for preforming the updates (i.e get_updates, do_update, db_add_column.. etc) and update.php that has the current UI for updates. Is there any reason that this hasn't been done before? What I did was to create my confirm_form function as a menu callback: <?php $items['og/regcode/confirm/%'] = array( 'title' => 'Confirm registration code', 'page callback' => 'drupal_get_form', 'page arguments' => array('og_user_roles_register_confirm'), 'access callback' => 'user_access', 'access arguments' => array('use registration codes'), 'weight' => 10, 'type' => MENU_LOCAL_TASK, ); ?> So, in my submit hook, I do a "drupal_goto" (as opposed to drupal_execute or drupal_get_form) and put the key variable in the argument as part of the url. This works. But, seems to me that it would be much easier to be able to call another form and pass form variables from a submit hook (as I was attempting to do). -ron Earl Miles wrote: Yes, drupal_execute() submits a form. it does not render the form. confirm_form from submit hook

I submitted this issue here: http://drupal.org/node/387674, but I really need a response. I think this may be a bug, but I can't be sure right now. Need some advice. I have created a form. I want to submit the form values, validate them, then confirm that the user wishes to proceed. I place a drupal_execute('confirmation_form', $form_values) in my submit hook, and in the 'confirmation_form' I execute "confirm_form". But, it doesn't work. I don't get a confirmation form: the code execution cycles through to conformation_form_submit. form() Input values form_validate() validate values form_submit() Now, I want to confirm that the user wants to continue. If I call a form from within this submit hook that executes a confirm_form, the confirm_form() function doesn't work form_confirm() Execute confirm_form() doesn't work.
