for the smackdown module. It was one of the first module I created and so have kept somewhat active here and there. The stats are low and so is the issue queue, but I've not used it in over a year myself. It's rather a niche module and would be a great one for someone to cut their teeth on I think, so if you're interested, or maybe know someone who might be, please email me off-list. Choosing the correct subscript in the views array

I got my views handler test code working for node title, and now I'm trying to get the real code working with a content-type additional field (D7). My problem is that in calling hook_views_data_alter, the data array is different for a custom content-type field than it is for node_title, and I'm getting lost in it trying to figure out what the index is that I need to override in order to use my own field handler (I'm assuming that I need to override, that if I were not creating a custom handler the field would be using a default one) The field is field_test, and the major headings in the data array are: [field_data_field_test] => Array [table] => Array [entity_id] => Array ... [field] => Array [field_test_value] => Array [argument] => Array [filter] => Array [field_test_format] => Array [argument] => Array [filter] => Array Thanks in advance. Thanks, Jin Hi Jin Do you use the Devel module? The module, Devel, generates a lot of information about what is going on, I find it an indispensable tool. Krumo, a part of devel or used as a standalone module that depends on Devel, can display all of the elements of a given array or object. D7 Views adding to the Formatter select box

What would be a good file to look at to understand how I can add a formatting option to the Formatter select box in the config of the Fields pane of the Views UI? It's a text field added to a content type. Jeff

theming in D7

Hi folks, I'm struggling with theming in D7. In D6 I can do the following: create a form function mymodule_thingy_form(&$form_state) { // build a form in the usual manner // ..... return $form; } optionally create validate and submit functions function mymodule_thingy_form_validate($form, &$form_state) { // validate form elements } function mymodule_thingy_form_submit($form, &$form_state) { // submit the form info etc } then I can render the form with .... $output = drupal_get_form('mymodule_thingy_form'); return $output; .... Now in order to control the rendering in a theme I can add an entry to the theme registry function mymodule_theme() { .... 'mymodule_thingy_form' => array( 'arguments' => array( 'form' => NULL, ), ), .... } and create a function function theme_mymodule_thingy_form($form) { $output = drupal_render($form); return $output; } The form will be automatically fed through the theme function, providing the name is the same. In D7 I get somewhat different behaviour: If I do not create an entry in the theme registry, all works as expected, but if I do, things start to behave oddly. function mymodule_theme() { .... 'mymodule_thingy_form' => array( 'variables' => array( 'form' => NULL, ), ), .... } and create a function function theme_mymodule_thingy_form($variables) { $form = $variables['form']; $output = drupal_render($form); return $output; } The form is not fed through the theme automatically and is not rendered at all, I see 'Array' where the form should be. So I theme it explicitly with: .... $form = drupal_get_form('mymodule_thingy_form'); $output = theme('mymodule_thingy_form', array('form' => $form)); return $output; .... This results in no form visible at all, though there are mangled traces of it in the source html. So I use dd($form) to find out what is going on and discover that it is going through the theme function twice and is being mangled on the second time through, so I modify the theme function. function theme_mymodule_thingy_form($variables) { $form = $variables['form']; $output = (is_array($form) ? drupal_render($form) : $form); return $output; } Phew! my form is rendered. Google Code-In (GHOP v2.0)

Greetings, Development List! Just wanted to raise to your attention that Google is sponsoring a program to help 13-18 year olds get involved in open source called Google Code-In:http://code.google.com/opensource/gci/2010-11/index.html. The program runs Nov. 22 - January 10, and the past incarnation (GHOP) netted us rockstars such as Jimmy Berry (who wrote the infrastructure for our automated testing bot), Daniel Wehner (who is now a Views co-maintainer), and Charlie Gordon (who has done a bunch of work in core on SimpleTest and D7UX patches). We're currently in the "apply as a mentoring organization" status, and in order to do that, we need a list of tasks in eight categories (Code, Documentation, Outreach, Quality Assurance, Research, Training, Translation, and User Interface) that someone in jr. high/high school could pick off in a week or so. This task list is due next Friday, and I'd love to have at least 25-30 tasks in a variety of areas ready to go well in advance of that. Since there are a lot of module maintainers on this list, I should point out that this program isn't limited in any way to core, since that seems to be a misconception.If you have fun/interesting problems in your issue queue that you've been meaning to solve but haven't found the time, or documentation that really needs to get written, a mockup you want created of some tricky interaction screen, etc. these would all make great tasks. Also, to head this off at the pass, I'd like to not simply cop-out and fill the list with 10,000 "Port X module to Drupal 7" and "Write SimpleTests for Module X" (although we have that to fall back on for 3-5 tasks in the list). This program isn't about getting free child labour, it's about inspiring the next generation of open source contributors. Further, it's very obvious to students (and Google, for that matter) how much work mentoring organizations put into their task list and a lame copy/paste job (which is what we'll have to resort to if we can't find enough good tasks :\) is likely to get students heading off to another project. We currently have 0 viable tasks, and only one task suggestion, so any help we can get here is appreciated. :( Thanks. -Angie

It's possible create alias with same name as system path?

Hi, I have tried create alias for user/1 - i use node which is system path and it's work. Then i try successfully replaced system path admin/build/path/list to user/1/edit alias and now if i clik on menu item with admin/build/path/list i get user/1/edit page. I try make vanity url module (user has select his own url alias for user/[uid]) and this is strange behavior for me. There is possibility for user overide some of system drupal paths. module names and namespaces

Hey, I'm wondering what the community thinks about this... I feel that if I have modules/foo/foo.module checked into drupal.org CVS and drupal.org/project/foo, then this module stakes a claim to the foo_... namespace. That is, I can name my functions foo_whatever without worrying that some other module out there already defines the same function. Similarly, I can name my variables foo_whatever, database tables, and so on. Now, let's say someone else checks in a module called foo_bar. And say both modules define the same function, variable or other namespace collision. What then? Is that a bug, and if so which module is responsible for fixing it? If you want a concrete example, both fb.module and fb_social.module define variables starting with "fb_", and specifically I wonder how to respond to http://drupal.org/node/943462. I don't want to start a flame war. I'm curious if there is community consensus or official policy. Personally I think its a bad idea to name any module with an underscore. That is, drupal.org/project/foo_bar should instead be drupal.org/project/foobar, as this avoids any confusion. -Dave
