node object in hook_block?

Hello, I see many implementations of hook_block who declare global $user but none with global $node I tried it but $node is still not set, so I cannot access the node object directly. the solution would be to do like in book_hook() and check on arg(): if (arg(0) == 'node' && is_numeric(arg(1))) but it looks like a hack and for what I have in mind, it makes things more complicated. Isn't there a possibility to have directly access to the $node object? submitting and processing a form!

Hello, I thought I grocked the new form API, but I have just been pulling my hair trying to do something that I thought would be fairly easy. I guess I still deserve my handle 'beginner' :/ . In the code below, I create a hook_menu() callback to the function formtest() with a form. I want to be able to print some information according to the form that has just been submitted (here, a simple text string), then reprint the form below that. I know that $_POST['op'] is set when I submit (and the process die()s when I uncomment that line), but I can't get the information submitted to be displayed above the form. I have tried using the function formtest_submit() but returning a value there doesn't get the expected result (it seems it's a path callback). I have searched the extensive documentation, but all there is is how to build a form, not how to process and display the information. Am I, for the third time this week, missing something obvious and simple? Time for a new chapter of an endless debate

Hi, Drupal uses objects. Reasons are probably lost by now in the ancient past. PHP is still not the best. I can write: somefunction(array('this' => 'that')) while there is no similar construct for objects. Also we use arrays for links, menus, links and soon mails. So, I propose removal of objects on practical grounds: shorter notation and a very little memory gain. If you have an opinion please share but I think we are only furthered by _practical_ viewpoints. No theory can make Drupal faster or lower its memory usage. The change looks big but it's not, it's scriptable and I can whip up such a script in a very short time. Regards NK Ps. Readability issues? Cache troubles

Another topic - might be very seriouse bug. In cache module (and even without) To reproduce in 4.7: a) With cache on 1) Enable localization and change default language to localized, after it disable english. 2) Enable caching with 1-2 minutes reload time 3) Load server with more then 1000 rps 4) Pages appears with wrong BOM and unrendable for any browser b) With cache off 1) Do all in "a", except 2 (of couse) 2) Wait... :) 3) After certain number of entries users logging in will appear in "Who's on" list, but auth cookie wll not set to anyone of those users 4) In cache table more then 2000 entries. After cache table clean up evrything work until net couple of thouthand users... Please advice what to do. Another question is why cache table loads with data with cache off. Thank you -- Tamir

finding the $form_id of a particular form / all forms.

Hello, hook_form_alter() allows us to change forms according to their form_id: http://api.drupal.org/api/HEAD/function/hook_form_alter Am I missing something easy, or the only way to figure out what is the form_id of a specific form is to pour over the code and figure out which module initialized the said form? On one side, the number of critical issues keeps dropping (but those that remain will need proper attention). There were 45 (25) critical issues last week, and 37 (20) remain this week: a few got fixed during the last 14 days. We still need to work as a team to get the remaining critical issues solved, one at a time. On the other side, the overall number of issues climbed significantly, and especially the number of patches needing reviews. Patches needing reviews climbed from 246 (207) issues last week to 257 (211) this week. What is worrysome, is that many (most?) of those patches never received a single review. Some developper took the trouble to create a patch, but a review is missing either to tell him or her why the patch cannot be committed as is (and should be flagged as 'patch needs work'); or to push the patch forward to be committed. Maybe this is symptomatic of a community of developers that does not work as a team in its lower echelons. There is no much use in producing so many patches if most rot in the queue without the needed review. That's why every developer who produces a patch to be reviewed ('scratching their own itch') should also work as a part of the community and spend some time reviewing patches from other developers. Still, the tendency with critical issues is positive, and it is hoped that when critical issues are down to a very few, developers will turn their attention towards the 'patch needs review' queue. The queues featured below are all short. Select one and see if you can help bring the number of issues down by one or two until next week. We need to do for this old branch what has just been done for the 4.7 Beta releases: review each one individually, and close or bump to head as appropriate until no issue is left in this branch. ******************************************* 3} Why this report and how to cooperate? ******************************************* There are now over 2000 issues in the queue. The figure sounds daunting: how can a very few volunteer developers deal with such a huge amount of bugs? The point is that we don't need to worry of the whole issue queue, but by getting somewhat more organized, the most important of those issues can be definitively dealt with. To start with, there shouldn't be anything critical within the Drupal project issues. Critical bugs must be dealt as a matter of priority. But one can get easily discouraged when facing 4 four pages of critical issues. The first step is therefore to sort out what is really critical from what is not. Having a shortlist of what is really critical, two or three developers can focus on a single issue, helping each other, so that one week later there is one really critical issue less. Similarly, 10-12 developers could get rid of 3-4 critical issues and in a few weeks, the list of critical issues would be down to almost nothing (only 1-2 issues caused by a large patch recently introduced in head, for example). If you wish to participate in tackling one of the 7 short issue queues featured here, please reply to the list, quoting only the issue you wish to 'adopt', changing also the subject title of your email to reflect the queue you have chosen.
