Doing some interesting things with Listhandler

Hi, I am currently working on a website utilizing drupal and another 3rd party app we integrated. http://www.openmfg.org. Anyways I am trying to get the forums/mailhandler/listhandler modules all set up. The big difference here is that I am using postgresql as a database which neither of the modules support out of the box. if the listhandler developer is on here, he might be interested in what I am doing, I might also be able to assist him in any up keep in the module as well. I just need a little help getting over these first hurdles. Thank you, Trevor

critical bugs

Installation -- Can A Module "Refuse" To Be Installed?

I've started to write .install files for the modules I'm responsible for. Mostly this is pretty straightforward. But there are a few areas I'm hoping there is support for in the system: * UI for problems/status during install: I've made it a practice to do like merlinofchaos and put up a message to indicate I've installed tables (with a call to drupal_set_message). It's less clear what's best to call if there's a problem. * I've noticed that there are calls in install.inc to register schema versions, but I haven't seen any examples of their being used. How *should* those functions be used? * Dependencies are an issue for some of the stuff I'm installing. It would be a good thing if the .install could detect that a needed module was not present, and in that case, put up an error message and refuse to install. Is there a mechanism to do this currently? Tagging contributions for 4.7

Hi, this is a reminder to please tag your contributions appropriately for 4.7. Many people have become very wary of CVS HEAD because of the major incompatibilities between 4.6 and 4.7. We need people to test RC2 so we can get 4.7.0 out the door and start working on the next version. That's not going to happen if people are still afraid to upgrade! Please don't wait for a 'perfect release' before tagging. You will never iron out all the bugs without the large test base that a properly tagged contribution receives. Steven Wittens

nodeapi image concept (request for feedback)

Hey all, I’ve recently been working on a nodeapi-based image upload module for 4.7. I saw some conversations on this list a few weeks ago concerning efforts to unify image-handling projects and I was wondering how such a project would fit with these efforts. The image_nodeapi module currently has the following functionality: - Settings page to determine which nodes should enable image uploads. - Uses the image functions image_prepare, image_insert and image_update to do all the heavy lifting. - Allows users to set a caption for the image. - Default layout of a floated right image with the caption displayed underneath the image on pages. - Passes the node object to the theme, allowing site admins to over-write presentation of images to fit site specific needs. - Along these lines, admins could use a case statement in their theme file that would display a different layout for different node types, etc. The whole thing weighs in at just over 200 lines of code with a custom table for the captions and a css file to handle the default layout. Would the community be interested in a module like this? I’m willing to share the code with any who would like to review it. Please note that I don’t have write access to the contributions cvs repository. If the community thinks this module would be useful, I'll formalize my application in order to add this as a contributed module. If there are other projects that are about to surface that are similar to this, I'm definitely willing to combine efforts. I'll create a forum topic on drupal.org with posted code if that is the suggested way to proceed. As this is our first attempt to give back to the drupal community, any suggestions on the best way to proceed are welcome.
