Where to find 'taxonomy trees'?

Can anyone recommend sources for pre-organized taxonomy trees, available in plain-text (or XML, or Excel, or other) form? I'd like to download a category/taxonomy/clustering list that I could use in Drupal, but that I could also use in FileMaker and to create an on-disk folder hierarchy (in my local desktop filesystem, which is MacOSX.) I thought that I saved some links to some of these, but sadly I can not find the bookmarks from that research. I envision that there is some .edu or .gov site that might have some research into topical organization, and I believe some of these kinds of sources were in my bookmark collection of a half-dozen such lists. (Bookmark tools still don't match my brain's way of thinking. ;) I've considered using the taxonomy structure of projects like 'dmoz', the open directory project. I'm also open to shared Drupal taxonomy lists, so that sites could 'mirror' the structure (not content) of categories and topics, if they wanted to 'synch up'. Thoughts? Resources? Thanks, -- Gary

testing performance?

instead of hijacking my own thread in the initial post, i figured i should start a new thread about this... ;) one of the things killes asked about in http://drupal.org/node/18018 (the blocks-by-roles issue) was testing/reviewing the performance implications of this patch. is there a good node @ drupal.org that provides suggestions/best practices for performance testing in various environments? is this the best thing going: http://drupal.org/node/43478#comment-80933 ??? thanks for any wisdom anyone can share. -derek (dww)

How about having something like: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/reports/weekly-bug-summary.html Would be very helpful, in my opinion. In addition to the fields on the page, it would be nice to have snippets describing all the critical bugs, etc. All you need to do is implement some decent SQL queries and put them in a PHP page... all drupal.org admins can do this, afaik.... Forms API: Multipart Forms and Documentation

After months of work between hunmonk, myself, and chx, we've finalized some substantial progress on multipart forms. A multipart form is a form that is spread across multiple pages (like a wizard), but doesn't truly "submit" until the final page. There are still some hiccups here and there, largely due to checkboxes and multi-selects, but we're at a decent enough place to show off some working code and let it alone for Drupal 4.7. You must be running Drupal 4.7b6 or higher to use this stuff. How to call a function when a certain permission is set?

Hello there, Is there any way to call a specific function everytime a certain permission is set or reset? For instance, if the admin users allow users of a specific role to have access to voicemail, I'd like to create voicemail boxes for the users that already exist in the database. Not just for the new users that will be created over time. What do people do in a situation like that? Thanks in advance, Leo PS. I'm using Drupal 4.6...

The page below describes Yahoo's design philosophy and offers an alternative to 'graceful degredation' they call 'progressive enhancement'. It seems like an interesting approach and one that we should be aware of when introducing AJAX or similar functionality into Drupal. Upgrade button -- Our most important feature needed.

We really need the ability to easily upgrade our Drupal sites. I don't know how many people I know who are leaving Drupal en masse to things like wordpress and e107 simply because it's becoming too much of a pain for them to upgrade their sites. I have been using Drupal since 4.3.2 and it is still very difficult for me to start the upgrade process. I feel as if I really need someone with a clue to look at things for me and upgrade my site. Consequently, a few sites I have are still older revisiions, which are insecure. We need a one click to upgrade button. Something that goes out and checks your system to see if it has the latest software, if it isn't there, it upgrades it for you as well as your database. I love drupal and enjoy working on it, I would just hate to see our user share drop because other people are creating features that will simply make it easier for others to use different CMS's than our own. Please know that this assessment is from someone that doesn't code. The idea of me having to go in and download a new tarball, replace all the core drupal files (sort those things out is a mess) and make sure the modules etc... get updated is a nightmare to say the very least.
