Theming views output in Drupal 7

Hi, I have tried to use the old Drupal 6 approach to theme views output, such as rows and fields, that is creating the suggested template file in my theme and adding the appropriate THEME_preprocess function to template.php. In Drupal 7 this doesn't seem to work. Although my template file is picked up, I can't use these preprocesses. Could someone help me out and explain how this should be done, or point me to the documentation on this? I have tried using hook_theme to register my preprocesses, but to no avail. Balazs

Any reason why having a javascript timer fire every 2.5 second for an ajax request to my own callback(listed below) that all it does is return the contents of 2 _session variables would take up so much resources?

hook_node_*()

Hi List, I was just wondering. Now that there are separate hooks for the node API, is it necessary to check for permissions in every hook? E.g. The scheduler module has a permission for scheduling nodes. Do I need to check for that permission in lets say scheduler_node_update()? Regards, Eric

How can I make Drupal DOM elements accessible within a javascript function without having to do an ajax request to a page?

I have a javascript timer set to fire every 2.5 seconds so that I can set the current values for the items and total for the shopping cart summary. I would like to be able to get these values from client side cookies or javascript global variables so that I don't have to make an ajax call to the server but I have found that the DOM elements are not accessible within the javascript function unless I run an ajax request to a page (listed below) and after it returns then the DOM elements are accessible (i.e. $(".num-items").html(numItems);) and now I can update them. Having these ajax requests run every 2.5 seconds for every client will not scale. How can I tell from the returned value (i.e. drupal_add_js('shoppingCartInfo()', 'inline')) whether this javascript has been successful called so that I can stop the call to this javascript function the next time the hook is executed?

I am using the hook_cart_item in order to perform some javascript after an item has been added to the shopping cart. It appears to be called multiple times for just one "add to cart" click (i.e. if have 1 item in the shopping cart then hook is called 5 times and 2 items it is called 10 times) and I only want to run this javascript once. I have set it up so that the javascript is only called during the first time that this hook is executed but I have found that the javascript is not executed for this first iteration but instead is executed during a later iteration, and that it only executed once for each item within the shopping cart. My question is how can I tell from the returned value (i.e. drupal_add_js('shoppingCartInfo()', 'inline')) whether this javascript has been successful called so that I can stop the call to this javascript function the next time the hook is executed? Processing an image when a node is saved (D7)

I have a content type with an image field. I want to pull some metadata from the image file when the node is created or updated. I thought this would be pretty straightforward, but I'm baffled by some things that are going on in D7. I thought I'd implement hook_node_presave(). Apparently the image file isn't properly known by $node at that point. Krumo shows field_image['und'][0] but none of its child elements have useful information. And I have no idea what 'und' is all about. I added node_load() to see if that would help. On an existing node, it makes a difference. Krumo shows:

submitting date values to database using date_popup type form api

Hi, I have a form element called date in my module file like this .. $format='Y-m-d'; $form['date'] = array( '#type' => 'date_popup', '#title' => t(' Date'), '#date_format' => $format, ); date pop up Is coming fine and I can select date easily. Issue ahead me is to submit this date to database and show it in my edit form with default value which I submitted in databse. How I can submit this date to database (which is the better data type in table for this field? Is it int or date or datetime in mysql?) and retvieve it in Year-Month-date format to show on screen. Hi all, Is there a place where I could find the API documentation for the old Drupal 4.6 release? An archive, a site or something... I need to do some maintenance/development on some old Drupal 4.6 (the owners are not yet willing to upgrade to a more recent release) sites but I can't find the API's for 4.6 anywhere :(. How can I refer to the shopping cart using document.getElementById if it does not have an id?

I am trying to get the id for the drupal shopping cart widget so that I can refer to it within javascript. When I look at the shopping cart div within firebug (see below) it only lists the class and not the id and I tried referring to the class like it was the id but it was not recognized (i.e. drupal_add_js('alert(document.getElementById("panel-pane pane-block pane-uc-cart-0").value)','inline'); ). <div class="panel-pane pane-block pane-uc-cart-0"> How can I refer to the shopping cart using document.getElementById if it does not have an id? -- John J.
